    HDMI® Signal Tester

Test your HDMI® cables with the Monoprice HDMI® Tester 320 before making the connections and never connect a bad cable again!

Testing cables is as simple as plugging them into the tester. One end goes into the tester Master unit, while the other end connects to the Remote Terminator. Although the Remote Terminator is attached to the top of the Master unit for convenient storage, it can be easily removed if the ends of the cable cannot be brought to the same location.

The tester automatically turns on and tests the cable as soon as you plug it in. The LEDs will all illuminate if the cable is good and, if it is bad, the corresponding LED will fail to light up.

WARNING!!! Do not test live circuits as it could cause damage to the tester unit or personal injury.

Note: This product has a universal card packaging that is used for PIDs 8129, 8130, and 8131, with the individual model marked on the back. The front of the packaging includes functionality tags for all three testers combined. Therefore, the packaging erroneously indicates that this tester is capable of testing HDMI, Coax, and RJ12 cables, which it is not designed to do. For Coax, RJ45, and RJ12/11 testing, please use PID 8129 . For RJ45 testing only, use PID 8130.

    Pros: Pros
Incredibly cheap for what it does
    Small
    Long battery life

    Cons: Cons
    Manual need some attention

In the product notes it warns that it doesn't test Redmere cables. However it doesn't say that in the instructions that come with the product. Something else that would be helpful is to note in the directions required for disassembly of the two sections. Those not familiar with sliding dovetails might struggle taking them apart. Not having read the notes I tried to test Redmere cables and did get some lights to turn on. I don't know what the failure mode of Redmere cables is but I bet that this tester can assist. I expect that if I had a suspect Redmere cable (99% of the time the cable is installed in the wrong direction) and compared the light pattern with a known good Redmere cable this tester would give a valid indication of failure on a base level. Confirming performance at 18 gaps at long lengths requires expensive kit. However, if you would spend a little time seeing if it in fact can provide some limited evaluation of Redmere cables and clean up the other manual issues it would be of great benefit to users. I'm sure you have several hundred of these on the shelf with the current manual (if you can call half a sheet a manual) but I suggest that you revise the manual on download and note in the product description that a revised manual is available. Why keep your light under a basket?

    Pros: Nice concept

Cons: Instructions are almost non-existant ! Still don't know if tester will work with active cables (Redmere) and/or if tester is sensitive to directionality of Redmere cables.
    OK for standard cables.

Great idea, but I can't tell if it's working the way it's supposed to on active cables (Redmere) ???

    Hello,

Thank you for your review. Keep in mind the HDMI signal tester will NOT work with Redmere. I hope this clarifies it for you. Thanks!

Pros: A great device for the price. It may give false positives, but if it shows negative, throw the cable away or recycle if you can.

    Cons: None

    Pros: Small, Light, Bright LEDS.

Cons: The only reason I gave this a 9 instead of a 10 was because the unit was quite hard to separate into two pieces the first time. After the first time the tester comes apart fairly easily.

The best part is it is two separate pieces so the cable can already be installed. Most other testers you have to test both ends of the cable close together at the tester. This on separates for easy testing of installed cables. It works great!!
