    12 Outlet Power Surge Protector w/ 2 Built-In USB Charger Ports - 4230 Joules

Protect your electronic equipment from damaging voltage and current spikes with this Monoprice surge protector!

This model includes twelve protected power outlets, 4 of which are positioned for AC power adapters, and a 2-port 2.1A USB charger. The clear plastic tabs on the sides of the unit illuminate green to indicate when the surge protector is providing protection to your equipment and when a proper ground is detected.

When the protection circuitry has been fully consumed by power and current spikes, the protection light will no longer illuminate, indicating that the surge protector should be replaced. When the grounded tab is not illuminated it indicates that there is a problem with the house wiring and that the ground is not properly connected to the power outlet.

The surge protector has 4 keyholes on the back, allowing it to be secured to a wall or other surface.

    Great design and great features.

Pros: Great design, well spaced outlets

Cons: Not sure if the USB ports are pushing out as much power as they could be.

I love the flat design of this thing. I'm using it for my home studio, so i'M really thankful for the Ground Indicator. It turned out my bed room did not have grounded outlets, but my (unused) living room does, so I moved everything there. Haven't had any ground loop hum issues with my equipment. The green light doesn't bother me since I have it under my keyboard. I'm also using it for an on/off switch for my monitors (speakers), so I really never see the light it at all. The chord is a good length, well-made.
Now as far as the USB ports, I do have to plug, unplug, and replug the cord for my Samsung Galaxy S5 to get a full power draw (which is 1200 mA according to the Ampere App) When I plug the phone in the first time it hovers around 950mA, which is ok if I'm not doing much on the phone while it's charging. (EDIT: This COULD be an issue with my phone and not the USB ports themselves)
So, good product all around I'd say.

    Many ports...

Pros: Well built, sturdily mounted, has the ports I need.

Cons: The green LED 'Protected' and 'Grounded" lights are an annoyance, way too bright/powerful but the make a great night light if needed!

I'm pleased with the two bought in this purchase as I am with the previous one bought a year or so ago. I use a black plastic edge cap to cover the Green LED lights to live with them... I'd buy more if needed.

Pros: USB too? Thanks. I'll take two

    Cons: absolutely NONE

This has worked for me as a DJ for years now, never gives out or gives problems. Handles everything i throw at it. It just won't quit.

Item died after only being used for a few months.

Pros: Price, of outlets, USB ports

Cons: Didn't last long before they died.

I bought 2 of these as gifts for my family. They ended up never using them so they gave them back to me. Everything seemed to work fine until one day i noticed one stopped working. A few weeks later I noticed that my other one stopped working too.

Very sad to see these not working after a few months. Monoprice has always had quality items. Maybe this was a bad batch?

    Bright Green Lights

    • Joe,

Pros: Spacing and layout of outlets. Two 2.1 amp USB ports. Not larger than it needs to be.

Cons: Bright, very bright green lights that I cannot seem to figure out how to turn off.

These are very distracting. I cannot use this unit in the bedroom or in the livingroom as the lights are really bright and extend along the entire side of the unit.

Does anyone here know how these lights can be turned off or at least turned down? I do understand their purpose, but I don't need the protected/grounded status to be broadcast as a beacon throughout the room. Thanks!

    Hello Joe,

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, there is not a way to lower the brightness of the LED nor turn it off. Some users have used tape to cover it. If you were to I would recommend using masking tape but leaving a portion visible that way you can see when the surge protector is grounded and protected. Possibly using tape that is a bit transparent that way you can still see the light but it would lower the brightness.
