12-Inch 150-Watt Powered Subwoofer, Black
When you want your bass down low, you need a subwoofer as part of your home audio/theater system. Monoprice has the basses covered with this 12 inch, 150 watt (RMS) Powered Subwoofer model!
This 12" sub is capable of producing 150 watts RMS (200 watts peak) output. It has a frequency response range of 50 to 250 Hz with a low-pass crossover filter, which can be adjusted through the full range. Gain and frequency knobs on the control panel allow you to adjust the crossover filter and the power output for the optimum blend and balance of bass output with your stereo or surround speakers.
The subwoofer has multiple input options, which allow it to be used with any existing stereo or 5.1 (or greater) amplifier system. For each input there is a corresponding output.
High-level inputs accept a full-range signal from the amplifier's stereo speaker outputs. When connecting the unit as part of a 5.1 system, these would be taken off the Front Left and Front Right outputs in parallel to the standard pair of front speakers. The subwoofer provides its own power and includes impedance matching circuitry, so this will not reduce the power output to the front speakers or affect the overall impedance load on the amplifier. The High-Level output can be used to connect to your stereo/front speakers or you can connect them in parallel at the amplifier.
Additionally, the subwoofer has a set of right/left Line Level inputs. If using a standard stereo system, without a special subwoofer output, you can connect these to the left and right line level outputs on the amp. The subwoofer will then combine the signals to process the mono bass signal it needs to drive the speaker. If you are using an amplifier with a single mono subwoofer line level output, simply use an RCA "Y" cable to split the output and send it to the two line level inputs on the subwoofer. The Line Level outputs can be used to daisy chain additional subwoofers to provide even more room-filling bass!
The subwoofer is housed in an attractive wooden cabinet, with a black finish, and measures 17" x 17" x 16 7/8" (H x W x D). The driver fires out the front and is covered by a black cloth grill. A 3 1/2" sound port is positioned underneath the enclosure.
An optional "Auto-On" function puts the subwoofer system into power-saving standby mode after about 2 minutes of no audio input detected. Alternatively, the "Auto-On" function can be disabled, allowing the unit to be on whenever the power switch is in the "on" position. A 2 amp/250 volt fuse protects the system from short circuits or power overloads.

I bought this sub hoping it would add a little bit, but not expecting much. It's in a 28x36 foot room with ceilings vaulting to 16' so it's a ridiculous amount of space for any sub let alone a budget one. I was hoping it would just add a bit of bassy flavor. I wasn't expecting what I got.
What I got is a complete transformation of the sound. It's richer, much deeper, can go much louder... all the things I am used to getting with a much bigger sub in a much smaller room.
The audio world is full of things called "sub woofers" which are nothing of the sort. This $104 gem is the real deal. It's far from perfect and I wouldn't take it downstairs, but it makes plenty of low end that's not boomy. It's not the one note "bass" that you get from cheaply built/designed subs. It adds greatly to the theater and gets out of the way when it needs to. And all at a price that wouldn't buy the worst sub at most local stores.
Amazing job! Truly amazing. I'm buying another one for my computer.
PROS: Nice sounding, nice looking. Real bass with good note definition. Powerful. Amazing price.
CONS: No switch to disable crossover for home theater setups where the receiver is crossing over the sub (but this is probably a non issue).
Volume knob a bit sensitive (another non-issue since almost all receivers allow fine tuning of sub level)
PROS: DEEP, CLEAN BASS
CONS: NOTHING YET
PROS: Great sub at a very good price. Puts out tremendous bass that is easily tailored to your system using the volume and crossover controls. It was better than the unit it replaced at a fraction of the cost. Just remember to order the y-adapter cable to hook up properly. By the way, the shipping box it came in was one of the most secure I've gotten. Shipper would have had to drop it off a moving truck to damage it. Well done, Monoprice!
PROS: Performance to price ratio.
CONS: Takes time to tune to your room.
PROS: Its not an annoying sub, comes on strong when called for, Has good dynamic range. Is fast and plenty powerful.
CONS: It doesn't go down to 20 hz. It requires proper setup which may take some patience. You wont notice its shortcomings.
PROS: Great price. Great look.
CONS: Wanted a little more bone rattling.
It was tricky to get setup up and tuned. Finally just turned the crossover to max and volume to half and used the home theatre amp to tweak the sound crossover and volume. Not sure the auto-on is working, need to play with it some more.
PROS: Nice heavy unit, great bass sound.
CONS: Took some figuring to get hooked up and tuned, needed to by an RCA splitter from a local store. Don't know why monoprice just doesn't include one of their 50 cent ones, it wasn't worth ordering alone but i will get one next time I order some other things.
I exchanged my first unit as it developed a loud humming noise after about one week of use. Monoprice made the exchange process quick and as painless as possible. I promptly received a replacement and it unfortunately has the same issue, just much less severe, now after about a month of use I can no longer hear the humming.
Other than that small hiccup, I've been very satisfied with the product. I've got it paired with two M-Audio BX5a's and it's been a great compliment to the reference monitors.
PROS: Outstanding, room-filling bass
CONS: Audible hum when in a quiet room
