    12-Inch 150-Watt Powered Subwoofer, Black

When you want your bass down low, you need a subwoofer as part of your home audio/theater system. Monoprice has the basses covered with this 12 inch, 150 watt (RMS) Powered Subwoofer model!

This 12" sub is capable of producing 150 watts RMS (200 watts peak) output. It has a frequency response range of 50 to 250 Hz with a low-pass crossover filter, which can be adjusted through the full range. Gain and frequency knobs on the control panel allow you to adjust the crossover filter and the power output for the optimum blend and balance of bass output with your stereo or surround speakers.

The subwoofer has multiple input options, which allow it to be used with any existing stereo or 5.1 (or greater) amplifier system. For each input there is a corresponding output.

High-level inputs accept a full-range signal from the amplifier's stereo speaker outputs. When connecting the unit as part of a 5.1 system, these would be taken off the Front Left and Front Right outputs in parallel to the standard pair of front speakers. The subwoofer provides its own power and includes impedance matching circuitry, so this will not reduce the power output to the front speakers or affect the overall impedance load on the amplifier. The High-Level output can be used to connect to your stereo/front speakers or you can connect them in parallel at the amplifier.

Additionally, the subwoofer has a set of right/left Line Level inputs. If using a standard stereo system, without a special subwoofer output, you can connect these to the left and right line level outputs on the amp. The subwoofer will then combine the signals to process the mono bass signal it needs to drive the speaker. If you are using an amplifier with a single mono subwoofer line level output, simply use an RCA "Y" cable to split the output and send it to the two line level inputs on the subwoofer. The Line Level outputs can be used to daisy chain additional subwoofers to provide even more room-filling bass!

The subwoofer is housed in an attractive wooden cabinet, with a black finish, and measures 17" x 17" x 16 7/8" (H x W x D). The driver fires out the front and is covered by a black cloth grill. A 3 1/2" sound port is positioned underneath the enclosure.

An optional "Auto-On" function puts the subwoofer system into power-saving standby mode after about 2 minutes of no audio input detected. Alternatively, the "Auto-On" function can be disabled, allowing the unit to be on whenever the power switch is in the "on" position. A 2 amp/250 volt fuse protects the system from short circuits or power overloads.

    Pros: Price/Sound quality

Cons: Case looks nice, however isn't 'quite' as slick looking as my old Klipsh.

I'm certainly not an audiophile, but this replaced an older Klipsh Sub12 (which was a 12" down firing with 300W). This seems just as good.

    Pros: Great sound

    Cons: Heavy

Heavy! Works as advertised! Great sound and easy setup. Replaced an 8" model from another vendor. What a difference!

    Pros: Performance to price ratio.

Cons: Takes time to tune to your room.

Amazing deal for the money. Transformed a cheap soundbar into very enjoyable tv experience. Best with lots of bass in the soundtrack. You don't know what you are missing until you hook this up. Thank you Monoprice.

Good Active Unit With Some Considerations

Pros: - Sound is decent, punchy, good for kicks and movies for the most part.
    - The amp is decent, it seems to be a little better built than the speaker that it is driving.
    - The finish looks well done
    - The box it shipped in arrived in great shape and well packed.

Cons: I do have a few cons. Where in my opinion this is still a solid four star product, there are some things to take note of.

The speaker does not perform as well as one would like at low frequencies. I knew this going in and did not think it would apply much to the media I am viewing / listening to. Several songs and trailers I really like do not translate as well compared to some of my other setups I have. This sub works great for punchy bass though, drums sound great. Those really low rumbling bass synths and explosions do leave some fidelity behind unfortunately with this. Maybe some more break-in time is necessary.

The box looks to be particle board. I'm not sure how long it would hold if you were listening to the unit at high levels all the time. I've had to add some vibration / sound deadening to it in certain areas of the box and where the sub is screwed in do to some vibration "rattling" that was going on with it.

The speaker is just a generic sub, nothing really special to it. I'm not sure if it'll last for to long either at high levels. I've noticed some distortion with the level over half way and my subwoofer pre-out on my avr is not to blame, the poor speaker just can't take all that the amp has to give.

This speaker is decent for what you pay. Can you get a better sub for this price that is 12"? Probably not. I paid $116 after a 15% off promo and shipping. Three days later, and it was at my door. Please see the pros and cons section for a summary.

Overall, I probably would not purchase this again though. The reason for 4 stars is becaise I have 10" units with roughly the same RMS output, better made boxes, and roughly the same price range. They have no problems taking the wattage I give them and hit lower frequencies. I just really wanted to try this one for the price.
