    12-Inch 150-Watt Powered Subwoofer, Black

When you want your bass down low, you need a subwoofer as part of your home audio/theater system. Monoprice has the basses covered with this 12 inch, 150 watt (RMS) Powered Subwoofer model!

This 12" sub is capable of producing 150 watts RMS (200 watts peak) output. It has a frequency response range of 50 to 250 Hz with a low-pass crossover filter, which can be adjusted through the full range. Gain and frequency knobs on the control panel allow you to adjust the crossover filter and the power output for the optimum blend and balance of bass output with your stereo or surround speakers.

The subwoofer has multiple input options, which allow it to be used with any existing stereo or 5.1 (or greater) amplifier system. For each input there is a corresponding output.

High-level inputs accept a full-range signal from the amplifier's stereo speaker outputs. When connecting the unit as part of a 5.1 system, these would be taken off the Front Left and Front Right outputs in parallel to the standard pair of front speakers. The subwoofer provides its own power and includes impedance matching circuitry, so this will not reduce the power output to the front speakers or affect the overall impedance load on the amplifier. The High-Level output can be used to connect to your stereo/front speakers or you can connect them in parallel at the amplifier.

Additionally, the subwoofer has a set of right/left Line Level inputs. If using a standard stereo system, without a special subwoofer output, you can connect these to the left and right line level outputs on the amp. The subwoofer will then combine the signals to process the mono bass signal it needs to drive the speaker. If you are using an amplifier with a single mono subwoofer line level output, simply use an RCA "Y" cable to split the output and send it to the two line level inputs on the subwoofer. The Line Level outputs can be used to daisy chain additional subwoofers to provide even more room-filling bass!

The subwoofer is housed in an attractive wooden cabinet, with a black finish, and measures 17" x 17" x 16 7/8" (H x W x D). The driver fires out the front and is covered by a black cloth grill. A 3 1/2" sound port is positioned underneath the enclosure.

An optional "Auto-On" function puts the subwoofer system into power-saving standby mode after about 2 minutes of no audio input detected. Alternatively, the "Auto-On" function can be disabled, allowing the unit to be on whenever the power switch is in the "on" position. A 2 amp/250 volt fuse protects the system from short circuits or power overloads.

    Amazing Sub
This sub is nothing short of astonishing. I just built a super budget theater in my living room using almost all mono-price gear: 5 in-wall speakers, this sub and all the cabling. It's my second theater and was supposed to be cheap and out of the way (My main theater is well over $20k worth of gear built with B&W Nautilus speakers, etc.).
I bought this sub hoping it would add a little bit, but not expecting much. It's in a 28x36 foot room with ceilings vaulting to 16' so it's a ridiculous amount of space for any sub let alone a budget one. I was hoping it would just add a bit of bassy flavor. I wasn't expecting what I got.
What I got is a complete transformation of the sound. It's richer, much deeper, can go much louder... all the things I am used to getting with a much bigger sub in a much smaller room.
The audio world is full of things called "sub woofers" which are nothing of the sort. This $104 gem is the real deal. It's far from perfect and I wouldn't take it downstairs, but it makes plenty of low end that's not boomy. It's not the one note "bass" that you get from cheaply built/designed subs. It adds greatly to the theater and gets out of the way when it needs to. And all at a price that wouldn't buy the worst sub at most local stores.
Amazing job! Truly amazing. I'm buying another one for my computer.

PROS: Nice sounding, nice looking. Real bass with good note definition. Powerful. Amazing price.

CONS: No switch to disable crossover for home theater setups where the receiver is crossing over the sub (but this is probably a non issue).
Volume knob a bit sensitive (another non-issue since almost all receivers allow fine tuning of sub level)

    Great speaker, great price

PROS: Great sub at a very good price. Puts out tremendous bass that is easily tailored to your system using the volume and crossover controls. It was better than the unit it replaced at a fraction of the cost. Just remember to order the y-adapter cable to hook up properly. By the way, the shipping box it came in was one of the most secure I've gotten. Shipper would have had to drop it off a moving truck to damage it. Well done, Monoprice!

    Great Sub
Great subwoofer and gives off a lot of rumble and bass. Makes me feel like I'm in a theater.

Amazing deal for the money. Transformed a cheap soundbar into very enjoyable tv experience. Best with lots of bass in the soundtrack. You don't know what you are missing until you hook this up. Thank you Monoprice.

    PROS: Performance to price ratio.

CONS: Takes time to tune to your room.

I have had it about a month now
Ok I have had this thing for about a month now. At first I thought it wasn't working because my Pioneer Elite receiver wasn't sending it very much signal through the RCA plug subwoofer output. I then calibrated my system with the microphone included with my receiver and that did the trick. I used the pioneer receiver calibration process with the sub turned up only about 1/3 of the way and with the subwoofer crossover frequency all the way at the highest HZ. Last night I watched the blu- ray movie War Horse which had some WW1 battlefield scenes and horses galloping in large numbers. The soundtrack (finally) showed me what the sub was capable of and I was impressed. For someone that doesn't want to spend 3-500 for a sub and wants thundering bass this is an absolute must buy. I will probably get a second one for my main room because I cannot get over what a value it is. As far as different shades of bass notes, I have been that route with other more expensive subs and was never really impressed with them in audiophile applications. When I listen for a sub in a system I am looking for it to convey emotion such as fear and or surprise. That means it has to be fast and it has to be capable of moving the air in the room. I want to feel slammed when there is an explosion. This subwoofer does do that in my room which is about 20 X 16 with hard wood floors and some overstuffed furniture. I have it working with a Pioneer Elite Receiver (entry level model from 2010) and Monoprice in wall front speakers (6 1/2 inches 3 way) and a stand alone Fluance center channel speaker and Monoprice surround in wall speakers (blue polypropylene 2 way model). I am surprised at the level of sound I am getting for so little money. If you set up this subwoofer right and you aren't in a huge room I think you will be surprised. If you aren't impressed get a second one for 100.00 you can't lose.

PROS: Its not an annoying sub, comes on strong when called for, Has good dynamic range. Is fast and plenty powerful.

CONS: It doesn't go down to 20 hz. It requires proper setup which may take some patience. You wont notice its shortcomings.

    Great Sub I Recommend
This is a great sub woofer for the price. It looks great. When adjusted correctly it rocks my home theater. You can feel/hear it two floors up. I did two theaters with it and am very happy. It sounds great with music as well as with movies. I looked at some that were more expensive and could not audibly distinguish a ton of difference. Of course, demo rooms and my house and receivers all play into the experience. This speaker looks better and performs better than a high end Sony i have in one of my rooms.

    PROS: Great price. Great look.

CONS: Wanted a little more bone rattling.

It sounded great once I got it hooked up and tuned the settings on the home theatre amp. Nice basement shaking bass for a great price.

It was tricky to get setup up and tuned. Finally just turned the crossover to max and volume to half and used the home theatre amp to tweak the sound crossover and volume. Not sure the auto-on is working, need to play with it some more.

PROS: Nice heavy unit, great bass sound.

CONS: Took some figuring to get hooked up and tuned, needed to by an RCA splitter from a local store. Don't know why monoprice just doesn't include one of their 50 cent ones, it wasn't worth ordering alone but i will get one next time I order some other things.

    Excellent Value
I'm impressed with the clarity of this sub for the price. As some reviewers have said, it is quite large, so I'd suggest breaking out a measuring tape to help you visualize its size better. That size does limit where you can place it, but fortunately it's a fairly attractive piece of equipment, especially considering its cost.

I exchanged my first unit as it developed a loud humming noise after about one week of use. Monoprice made the exchange process quick and as painless as possible. I promptly received a replacement and it unfortunately has the same issue, just much less severe, now after about a month of use I can no longer hear the humming.

Other than that small hiccup, I've been very satisfied with the product. I've got it paired with two M-Audio BX5a's and it's been a great compliment to the reference monitors.

    PROS: Outstanding, room-filling bass

CONS: Audible hum when in a quiet room

My audio receiver only has a single monaural audio output. This subwoofer has separate line in L and R inputs. Will this work well with my receiver? Or is an adapter of some kind needed so both L and R inputs are filled in? From what I understand, and I may be mistaken, there's no L/R difference with the audio sent to a subwoofer.

BEST ANSWER: For anyone interested in the answer: "If you are using an amplifier with a single mono subwoofer line level output, simply use an RCA "Y" cable to split the output and send it to the two line level inputs on the subwoofer. "
