*** NEWS FLASH! ***

Surround yourself in high-fidelity with the Monoprice 5.1-channel Home Theater Speaker System!

This speaker system features four satellite speakers and a center channel speaker for the mid- and high-range audio signals, plus an 8" powered subwoofer to handle the low frequencies. All the speakers come with an attractive black finish and convenient spring-loaded signal connectors.

The center speakers use two 3" shielded mid-range cones, while the satellites employ one 3" cone and a 1/2" dome tweeter. However, don't let the small size fool you! These 8 ohm speakers will handle up to 125 watts of power from your home theater receiver at frequencies from 150 Hz to 20 kHz.

The subwoofer is powered by a 60 watt (RMS) amplifier, driving a downward firing 8" cone. It can take either line or speaker-level inputs, so can be used with any amplifier, even older amps without dedicated subwoofer outputs. The subwoofer handles frequencies between 50 Hz to 250 Hz and includes adjustable crossover frequency and volume balance controls.

Also included in the box are four C brackets for mounting the satellite speakers to the wall and the necessary hardware for mounting the speakers to the brackets. A pair of plastic feet to properly orient the face of the center speaker is also included. Note that you will need to provide your own hardware for mounting the C brackets to the wall or other vertical surface.

Don't let the low price fool you! This speaker system sounds great and will fill your room with high-quality, full-spectrum sound!

Note: The speaker wire connectors on each unit comfortably accept a maximum 16 gauge speaker wire. For best results, Monoprice strongly recommends using pin-type speaker plugs to make the speaker connections and banana or pin-type plugs to connect the wires to your amplifier.

WARNING! Take extreme care when unpacking the subwoofer from the box. The subwoofer speaker is exposed on the bottom and could be damaged if the unit is grabbed carelessly.

Pros: Compact
Good sound

Cons: Cheap spring loaded speaker connectors, and they won't take 12 gauge wire
Center Speaker does not have C bracket wall mounting option.

Not bad, factor in the cost and these are a killer deal. The spring loaded terminals are poor. I don't expect top notch 5 way binding posts, but I do expect that the terminals would take thicker wire. Also the speaker terminal on the center channel is really cramped making it hard to get the wire inserted.

I bought these with the assumption that I would be able to play sound from my Mac. I also bought a wire with a usb on one end and the RCA things on the other. However, the speakers don't show up in my Mac's output options. Is there a way to do this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello Joe,

My apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 8247. The speakers would not have a power source so they would require the speakers to be wired via speaker wire to a home theater receiver or an amplifier to power the speakers and allow the RCA inputs on the amp or receiver to send the audio signal to the speakers. They would not work if you use an RCA to USB cable for the computer does not have proper drivers and it would likely not be able to power all the speakers. Now if you’d like, I can help setup an RMA for a refund if you were not satisfied with the speakers.

Pros: Great price great size satellite speakers sounds great but powered subwoofer does not work coming out of the box. So we will see how company will deal with issue of inconvenience. So far it's disappointing to have half a good system. Days go bye and I am the one that cannot enjoy a full fuctional system.

Thank you for your review on PID 8247. I apologize that the subwoofer isn't working out of the box. If I may ask, can you explain to me a bit further the issues experienced with the sub? Such as, is it failing to power on completely or is it turning on but not providing any audio? Also, if it is powering on, how is the sub connected to the receiver? Please let me know so I can best assist you in resolving this matter. Thank you!

Pros: Sounds good considering price and size.

Cons: Center channel speaker's binding posts at odd angle.

The type of spring-loaded binding post used is just large enough for stripped 18 AWG wire.
Pin plugs won't fit.

The subwoofer requires coax cable and Y-adapter (browse comments for response from Gabby V.)
