    *** NEWS FLASH! ***

Surround yourself in high-fidelity with the Monoprice 5.1-channel Home Theater Speaker System!

This speaker system features four satellite speakers and a center channel speaker for the mid- and high-range audio signals, plus an 8" powered subwoofer to handle the low frequencies. All the speakers come with an attractive black finish and convenient spring-loaded signal connectors.

The center speakers use two 3" shielded mid-range cones, while the satellites employ one 3" cone and a 1/2" dome tweeter. However, don't let the small size fool you! These 8 ohm speakers will handle up to 125 watts of power from your home theater receiver at frequencies from 150 Hz to 20 kHz.

The subwoofer is powered by a 60 watt (RMS) amplifier, driving a downward firing 8" cone. It can take either line or speaker-level inputs, so can be used with any amplifier, even older amps without dedicated subwoofer outputs. The subwoofer handles frequencies between 50 Hz to 250 Hz and includes adjustable crossover frequency and volume balance controls.

Also included in the box are four C brackets for mounting the satellite speakers to the wall and the necessary hardware for mounting the speakers to the brackets. A pair of plastic feet to properly orient the face of the center speaker is also included. Note that you will need to provide your own hardware for mounting the C brackets to the wall or other vertical surface.

Don't let the low price fool you! This speaker system sounds great and will fill your room with high-quality, full-spectrum sound!

Note: The speaker wire connectors on each unit comfortably accept a maximum 16 gauge speaker wire. For best results, Monoprice strongly recommends using pin-type speaker plugs to make the speaker connections and banana or pin-type plugs to connect the wires to your amplifier.

WARNING! Take extreme care when unpacking the subwoofer from the box. The subwoofer speaker is exposed on the bottom and could be damaged if the unit is grabbed carelessly.

    Great for the price/use case!

This is the second set of these speakers I have purchased. The first set is in a medium sized bedroom where they produce amazing sound and can't be beat at any price. The second set is in a living room and while they still sound great, they don't quite fill the room as well as they do in a bedroom. This isn't a knock on the set, it's still the best set of speakers you're going to get under $100 bucks, but in a larger room the limitations start to show themselves. But for the price, the compromise is of a little fidelity for value is still worth it.

Pros: Decent sound for the price.

    Cons: Subwoofer died.

I bought one of these a while back and have used it in my living room ever since. It has decent sound quality so I got another for the basement. Since the basement isn't our primary TV watching area, it has rarely been used. One day, I turned it on and noticed the subwoofer was cutting out even at moderate volumes. Then I heard a loud pop and no more subwoofer. Since it's been about 4 months, I am unable to return it and don't have any info regarding warranty. I got a new subwoofer from another retailer to replace it and it sounds much better.

    Love these speakers but...

    Pros: Great sound, compact, sleek

    Cons: Awkward port location

I love these speakers, but about a month or two in one of them started making a popping / scratching sound whenever there was a loud noise. A year later it's still making the same annoying noise whenever I crank them up. I'm assuming its broken. Is there any way to replace individual speakers?

Aside from the one problem child speaker, the only flaw in these is how the banana plug ports are placed. If you want your speaker wires running discreetly from the ceiling or through the walls, you'll have to either mount these upside down or have the wires visible from beneath the speakers. The placement of these ports also means that the speakers will always need to be turned to one side in order to be mounted to the C brackets.

    Hello Robert,

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you are experiencing with the speakers. I would recommend trying to re-seat the speaker wire on both the speakers and in the receiver. Sometimes that can help. Also try to make sure that there are no strands of the speaker wire touching for it could cause issues that way. If I may ask, is it just one speaker or all the speakers experiencing the popping sounds?

Just one speaker, the rest sound great. I'll check my connections, thanks!

No problem. You are very welcome. Once you have checked the connections and if the issues still occur, let me know and if you have the order number I can help in setting up an RMA for a replacement as long as the item is within warranty.

    Worth the money

    Pros: Compact
    Good sound

Cons: Cheap spring loaded speaker connectors, and they won't take 12 gauge wire
Center Speaker does not have C bracket wall mounting option.

Not bad, factor in the cost and these are a killer deal. The spring loaded terminals are poor. I don't expect top notch 5 way binding posts, but I do expect that the terminals would take thicker wire. Also the speaker terminal on the center channel is really cramped making it hard to get the wire inserted.

I bought these with the assumption that I would be able to play sound from my Mac. I also bought a wire with a usb on one end and the RCA things on the other. However, the speakers don't show up in my Mac's output options. Is there a way to do this? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello Joe,

My apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 8247. The speakers would not have a power source so they would require the speakers to be wired via speaker wire to a home theater receiver or an amplifier to power the speakers and allow the RCA inputs on the amp or receiver to send the audio signal to the speakers. They would not work if you use an RCA to USB cable for the computer does not have proper drivers and it would likely not be able to power all the speakers. Now if you’d like, I can help setup an RMA for a refund if you were not satisfied with the speakers.
