Premium 5.1-Ch. Home Theater System with Subwoofer

While superb sound quality is the ultimate goal of any home audio system, the realities of budget and even aesthetics often force compromises in sound quality. Well, the time for compromise is over. Now you can have it all - great sound, great looks, small size, and an unbelievably low price!

The Monoprice Premium 5.1-Channel Home Theater System surpasses all expectations for sound quality in a small package. The four satellite and the single center speakers each use a 3" polypropylene mid-range driver and a 3/4" aluminum dome tweeter. They can handle up 100 watts of power and have an impedance of 8 ohms.

The satellite and center channel speakers handle frequencies from 110Hz to 20kHz ±3dB, with the crossover between the mid-range and tweeter drivers set to 3.5KHz. The powered subwoofer features an 8" downward firing speaker driven by a 200 watt amplifier. It handles frequencies from 30Hz to 150Hz (-10dB) and uses a variable crossover from 40-150Hz.

The satellites measure only about 6.9" x 4.3" x 4.3" (HWD) and weigh about 2.9 lbs each, making them easy to mount almost anywhere. The center channel speaker measures about 4.3" x 10.2" x 4.3" (HWD) and weighs 3.0 lbs. Both the satellite and center speakers are equipped with a universal 1/4" threaded insert mounting options and have rear-firing ports, so they sound best when there is some breathing room behind them.

The subwoofer is a 12.6" cube and weighs about 20 lbs. It features four large rubber feet, which keep the downward firing driver off the floor. It includes both line and speaker level stereo inputs, so it can be used with any amplifier. A phase control switch on the back allows you to adjust the phase of the subwoofer in relation to the rest of the system.

So when looking for speakers for your home audio system, make the no compromise choice and enjoy superb sound quality and a stunning sound stage with the Monoprice Premium 5.1-Channel Home Theater System!

    Pros: Pros:
Price to performace ratio is very, very nice
During warranty period, Monoprice painlessly replaced a defective satellite and gave me a spare. Cool.

quality is not... hard to know if it's materials, design, or construction. Longevity is the problem. Had 1 arrive dead, another just died, one the 3rd acts like the voicecoil is blown- I got the crunchy, static-y noise another reviewer mentioned. When I gently depress the cone of the mid/"bass" driver, you can hear and feel the voice coil rubbing against the internal structure.

Cons: 3 dead satellites out of 6 after ~1.25 yrs. Now I'm short one. Don't really want to drop another $70 on another pair just to have them die again, so I might replace with something better built.

So... I got this system in Jan 2015. It entered service ~march. It's been in sporadic use since then. The system originally came with one dead satellite. Kudos to monoprice (and why this is 4 stars) is that their response was to ship me a new pair. Awesome!
Or it was awesome until the last couple months. Two more satellites dies. Now I'm short one satellite :(

    Excellent system for the money

Pros: Great sound for the money
    Small and compact
    Nice looking

Cons: Buy the system don't buy individually overpriced that way
Little blue light on the front of the subwoofer is Bright with a capital B.
(Two words for that "electrical tape")

In my younger years I may have been turned off by this system. I wanted a big name brand. I wanted top end specs. But some years later I just want something with great sound for a good price. This is that system. The satellite speakers are well made wood with cloth fronts and binding posts that accept banana plugs (also sold on Monoprice). The center speaker is larger in size and produces some good quality voice. The subwoofer is compact in size and throws some serious punch. I have yet to really crank this system up or let Top Gun rip on it because it's still burning itself in. But nonetheless I still get the "can you turn that down" from the other room.

I can't figure out why the package price is so much cheaper than what they sell the pieces individually for however. Something seems a little fishy here. At $139 for the whole system, but $129 for the subwoofer $79 x 2 for two sets of speakers and $45 for the center channel. That makes it $332 individually. I am not sure who handles pricing at Monoprice but just buy the system. It's a great bargain.

    Defective after a year

    Pros: Great sound

Cons: defective speaker after a year

Worked ok for about a little over a year. Then one of the satellite speakers started to make a terrible buzzing noise. I swapped the speaker to different channels with same result, so it was definitely a defect with the speaker. Only a one year warranty so Amazon/Monoprice refused to fix. Would NOT purchase this system again or recommend it to anyone.

    very good value for price

Pros: Great sound for the price .Matte black finish doesn't show fingerprints

    Cons: none

I was also skeptical about these speakers but with the 30 day return policy I thought I would give them a try. I liked them so much that I was going to order 2 more satellite speakers. When I went back to the Monoprice website to place my order I saw a pair of premium tower speakers for sale ( no longer available ) I ordered the tower speakers and I'll tell you this system rocks !! I can't believe that I only paid $265.00 for the entire speaker system they are easily worth 2x the amount. .I use them in a 13 x 20 room with a vaulted ceiling paired with an Onkyo TX-NR636 home theater .I use them for mostly listening to music and I am very happy with the sound. Not state of the art but I only paid $625.00 for the entire system. If you are on a budget get these speakers. ( also order the 5.25 inch tower speakers to make your system 7.1, if they are like the large ones no longer available you won't be disappointed )

    Best Boom for Buck

Pros: Great Value, small package, powerful output, looks appealing.

Cons: Takes a while to break in, does better in smaller volume environments.

I am really impressed by this stereo setup! I have had this for at least half a year now and continue to be impressed by this. I have the 5.1 surround setup in my living room (20'x11') with speakers satellite mounted on the ceiling. For being smaller speakers it really fills the room nicely with sound. I am using a Yamaha RX-V377 receiver. I use the 5.1 surround setting for music and the spectacle setting for movies. I have subwoofer frequency set to 3/4 and the bass level on 5/12 and WOW, it really booms! I can highly recommend this stereo and believe it is the best boom for buck. One piece of advice is to keep the volumes low until the speakers and sub are broke in. I have taken 6 months of daily use to progressively turn up the power and volume and it just continues to sound better, louder, powerful, & crystal clear!
