Get some sweet sounds from these moderate sized bookshelf speakers from Monoprice!

These attractive speakers feature a single 8" polypropylene woofer, a 4" polypropylene mid-range driver, and a 1/2" dome tweeter on each unit. They have a sensitivity of 88 dB and can handle 120 watts of power, making them a perfect match for moderately powered amps.

The flat black wooden cabinet measures about 16 7/32" tall, 11 3/8" wide, and 9 3/8" deep. They can be mounted vertically or horizontally on a bookshelf or vertically on a wall, using the keyhole bracket on the back of the speaker enclosure. Excellent value product

Pros: Value and quality of the product is excellent.

Cons: Wire connectors could be better, but not a big issue for me when looking to the whole product value and quality.

The speakers sound is great. I have an Onkyo A/V receiver with Klipsch (smaller) speakers in the back and the Monoprice speakers in the front and works really good. I think would sound better if I would have 2 sets of Monoprice speakers (that cost less than one set of Klipsch speakers).

Part of my ultra-budget home theater speaker system

    Pros: Price, 3-way, great sound

Cons: Could be too big for some! Would be great with 5-way posts for speaker wire connection. Shipping to NJ was a little expensive.

What a deal I got on these speakers! Perfect timing with a Monoprice sale and an additional percent off promotion. I got 1 pair of these 3-way 8251, 3 pair of the 8250, and the 8248 8" powered subwoofer. I have it all hooked up to an Onkyo HT-RC360 and added an Infinity BU1 sub for a full 7.2 setup. The 8251s are the front L/R, and the 8250s are the center, surround, and height speakers. I have about 60 hours of break-in on the 8250s and 30 hours on the 8251s and the sub. All of this was set up using the Audyssey room-correcting auto setup. All of this is in my small home office of about 11'x13'.

When I decided to set up my Onkyo receiver in my home office, I intended to just have a pair of speakers as left and right for a 2-channel stereo setup. The first speakers I looked at were Yamaha NS-6490 available for about $129 online. They are a large 3-way sealed speaker with an 8" woofer, 4" mid, and 7/8" tweeter. Sound familiar? After doing a lot of research and reading of reviews, I was drawn to the 8251s based on a review of the 8250s. The reviewer said he had these as front L/R and the 8250 as a center channel in a home theater setup. I was all set to get 4 pairs of the 8250s for a 7.2 setup, but with the reviews here and on Amazon being mostly positive, I decided to get the 8251 for the front L/R. No regrets! In my review of the 8250s, I said that I could barely tell a difference between the 8250 and my Wharfdale Diamond 7.2 speakers. I did the same side-by-side A/B comparison with the Wharfdales and these 8251s. The difference was immediately noticeable! I preferred the sound of the 3-way 8251 over the 2-way Wharfdales. No doubts. The 8251s are crisp, clear, and warm. They made the Wharfdales (which sound great) sound muffled and muddy in comparison. It was good advice from the other reviewer to use these as from L/R in a home theater set up. I'm a little surprised that the bass isn't more powerful with the 8" woofers. Maybe it's that they are sealed? Doesn't matter for me as I'm also using 2 subs. I have one of these on a 30" stool, and the other hung using the keyhole hanger and a 50-lb picture hook nailed into a stud. I wasn't confident with just that, so I screwed in a 2x4 that is a little wider than the speaker and the bottom of the speaker rests on this for more support. The sound with these and the 8250s is great in all decoder modes, DTS Master, Neo6, Dolby Digital, PLIIz, Audyssey DSX, 7-channel stereo, 2-channel stereo, 2-channel direct, and sounds great with music (pop, rock, hip-hop, jazz, classical) as well as TV & movies. The setup I have is probably overkill for this small room, but it sounds great. ...and these 8251s aren't even broken in yet. Probably another 20 hours or so to go.

I have to thank CNET for the good press they gave the Monoprice products, and thank Monoprice for putting out such great products at such amazing prices! I never imagined I could get so much for what I paid! All of it for the same price as one pair of the Yamahas! Customer service is great too!

    Not bad, but not good

Pros: Appear to be well made for the price.

Cons: Though they would be "warmer" with more mid-range with the three-way design.

They ware a little too "tinny" for me. I'm looking for a full, warm mid-range I'm sending them back to try the premium 2-way. I am doing both with a sub-woofer looking for a balanced and big sound. I want to give the Monoprice offerings a chance. My fall back is the B & W bookshelf speakers at $$$$

    Great speakers

Pros: Surprisingly high quality sound, very sturdy construction, attractive, unbeatable price, very speedy delivery.

    Cons: Mid - range unresponsive.

I guess I shouldn't be so surprised at the quality of these speakers as so many others have written great reviews, and it cannot be said enough: these speakers are outstanding. Guaranteed that they will make you say "wow".
I placed my order on Thursday, was happy that I got free shipping, and was expecting them maybe Monday so I could have some fun setting them up on my day off. They arrived the day after I ordered them, along with other pieces of equipment I had ordered on Wednesday afternoon. (Wow, that is fast!)
So I have had these speakers for a total of 2.5 hours and love the sound they produce. Well... sort of. I seem to have been part of the unlucky few who have received a pair of speakers with no mid range response from the 4" speaker. I have even tried changing the speaker cable, changing audio settings on all equipment, and using a different source. Nothing.
Otherwise they are great. Subwoofer turned off, they still push out very impressive lows that would trick you into thinking the sub is on. I have watched a couple of films in 2.1 stereo, listened to music, and run it through a couple of frequency tests While they sound so very good, there is just that feeling of emptiness that I cannot get over when watching the films. Have the lows, have the highs, have nothing to balance it out.
I plan on getting more speakers to complete a new 5.1 set up since these do sound so nice, but would truly like to have everything working properly.

In all honesty, I may wish to replace these with smaller 2-ways up front and complete the surround set up as that would better accommodate my home theater set up. Hopefully Monoprice can help me out with an exchange, as they seem to have some high quality customer service.
All in all these speakers are amazing, especially for the price and speed of delivery. It's just unfortunate that it seems to be a roll of the dice as to whether or not all 3 speakers work.

    Pros: GREAT!!

    Cons: NONE.

I've heard many speakers..and these little guys are some of the best I've heard at any price. I own JBL, Klipsch, Polk, Definitive Technology (outdoor) and these compare favorably with all of them! Fine sound and a superb value. Thanks Monoprice!
