I used this with a pair of 8 inch speakers from Monoprice (PID 4104) and it works great. I used 14 gauge wire which was a tight fit, but it worked. The volume knob itself has around 10 different positions and feels really solid when turning up or down. I fit this into an old work 4 gang electrical box (using a divider to separate the high and low voltages). It barely fit, but it works.

    Pros: price, quality, functions

what you have to realize is that the output of this IR repeater only works wired directly to an IR diode. Took a little tinkering to get it to work but once correctly wired this thing works perfectly. If you buy an IR sender made for a specific IR repeater, you'll need to remove the diode an solder it to a set of leads.

The volume knob has a nice solid feel to it. I highly recommend this product.

Pros: price is good when compared. good little unit worked like a charm when connected. no problems. screws would look better if they were white . I substituted mine with white ones I had.

Cons: Only white face plate , not like others that have 3 colors included but maybe that saves cost.

I needed a new one to replace another brand that went bad in the IR portion. This one was cheaper than the original. And works fine so far only been a couple of weeks.

Pros: Easy to use (even for a novice like me).
Input/Output slots come off the unit for easily installing the speaker wire.

Cons: Not a con but the face plate is not exactly flush with the main knob plate.

This is a very well designed unit and does what it is supposed to. I got the control with the IR repeater function but decided won't be using it after I saw that the wiring is a little complicated for my expertise. But it is there if I decide to use it later. :-)

I bought two of these units to control two pairs of indoor in-ceiling speakers (in separate areas of my basement) in combination with a Sony 2 channel receiver. Worked out pretty well and I couldn't be more happier with how it turned out. This was my first time trying something like this and I initially struggled to get the speaker wire (14AWG) to latch on to the input/output terminals of the unit. But the trick was to have only as much copper wire exposed as needed that would fit into the slot and push the speaker wire inside the slots as hard as you can while tightening the nut all the way until it can turn no more. This secures the speaker wire very well while installing the unit into the wall.

Like other reviewers have pointed out (for the non-IR model), the unit is a little large to fit/latch on to a 1 gang outlet but it wasn't a huge deal for me because the back of the wall for both my outlets led into the unfinished area and I didn't even have to use a box in the back.
