Speaker Volume Controller RMS 100W (Rotary Type) - White

This is a rotary-type wall plate volume control for speaker systems with power ratings of up to 100 watts per channel and impedance ratings of 4 to 16 ohms. This rotary control can be set to one of twelve positions, including the minimum (off) and maximum volume settings.

The wall plate mounts into a standard single-gang, low-voltage wall bracket (not included) and has inputs and outputs for one pair of stereo speaker wires (4 input connections and 4 output connections). It can accept speaker wire in sizes from 14 to 16 gauge and provides a frequency response range of 35 Hz to 20 kHz (+0/-2db) at the full power rating of 100 watts per channel.

Please note: This volume control does not include a wall mounting bracket.

    Support Files:

Input 2 channels, 100 watts per channel
Output 2 channels, 4 to 16 ohms impedance matching
Frequency Response 35 Hz to 20 kHz (+0/-2 db) at rated power
Wire gauge 14 to 16 AWG
    Material Plastic ABS
    Depth 2 3/4"

When setting up the speaker volume controls, it is important to match the impedance of your speaker system with the load rating of your amplifier. This is done by setting the jumpers on the volume control to compensate for the number of speakers you have in a parallel configuration and the impedance level of the speakers.

If using a single pair of speakers rated at the same load level as your amplifier, you don't need to make any changes - just leave the jumper in the default x1 position. However, if your speakers are of a different impedance level and/or you have more than one set of speakers in parallel, please refer to the following chart as a guide for setting the jumpers on the speaker volume control.

Note that for any speakers wired in series, the overal impedance level is the sum of each speaker. So two 4 ohm speakers wired in series is the same impedance as a single 8 ohm speaker.

    Nice Look & Function

Pros: Nice Look. Was able to fit the unit in a different wall plate to better match finish. Product functions as expected.

Cons: The wall plate that is included isn't as wide as most single-gang wall plates, this left our box so that you could see tears in the drywall in many cases. Luckily we could switch it out. The documentation indicates that the standard configuration for the jumper is 1x (single pair of 8 ohm speakers) but on all of my units the jumper default was set to 2x, be sure to check yours.

I spent a few days installing and testing 6 of these units. I'd say the value is definitely there but have a few nit-picks on the default setup and documentation. I thought the volume potentiometer would turn smoothly but the unit has about 10 discrete clicks instead, just something to be aware of. I have these each connected to a pair of 50W 8 ohm speakers.

Very Well Made at Great Price

    Pros: Easy install
    Great quality build

Cons: Can be a tight fit for some openings

A very well made volume controller. The weight alone gave me confidence! Installed without any problem and works as advertised. My audio-video guy helped me with installation and he even commented on the quality. He installs very high end systems and was unfamiliar with Monoprice. Think I might have converted him.

    Great volume control

    Pros: High power
    Easy to Install

    Cons: Matte white
    A little large
    "Clicks" when turned

This is a great volme control. As others have mentioned it is more of a matte white color. It is also a bit on the large side, but I was able to install it in a low voltage box just fine. It accepted my 14 AWG wire just fine unlike some others. One thing that I don't like is that when you turn it it "clicks" into each posistion. Overall it is a great volume controller for the price.

Works well, just watch the colour and finish

    Pros: Good quality
    solid piece of hardware
    easy to connect to
    works as advertised

Cons: finish is not bright white
finish is also very matte vs. as compared to most switches/outlets

Works as advertised - just note that the colour is slightly off-white and not bright white / higher gloss white like most current decora switches and outlets. Side by side you will notice a difference in finish.

    Cost Effective and works well

    Pros: + good price
    + work well
    + good volume
+ rotary "bumps" let you set the volume in multiple steps
+ configurable by jumper for different setups (see impedance correction chart in product description for details - I saved a copy for future reference)
+ good price compared other other sites

Cons: - Note the size: they are large units and would have struggled to put these in a single gang electrical box. Luckily my wiring guy used low voltage plates during the construction of our home which made it easier. Even then, the plate's hole was just barely wide enough to accept the volume control unit. Had to slide in at an angle which was tricky because the wires kept trying to push the unit's jumper pins into the plate and actually bent a few pins before it got inserted properly.
    - Jumper pins are in a terrible location and will catch and bend while inserting or removing the unit into a low voltage wiring plate.
    - Rotary knob seems smooth on 3 of the units but the 4th one is a little tight around the 4th or 5th stop. Hopefully it doesn't seize up like others have reported happening.

Received quickly but shipping was almost 50% of the total cost. They work as expected and are a good deal for the price (paid $17.87 + shipping). I ordered 4 and all worked OK. Would order again if needed.
