PROS: Small and covienent , and durable
PROS: Easy installation, marvelous fit under my kitchen counters, wonderful tv assistant.
CONS: the arm joints could not be tightened ehough to hold a iPad 3 in place
PROS: Easy to install and easy to adjust. Works perfectly with iPad 1. Looks good in the kitchen!
However, if you tighten it to the max, it will hold your ipad 3 steady with minimal drooping or sagging.
I recommend that you delete as much music and pictures off your iPad as possible to make it easier for this stand it to hold it properly!.
All in all, a cheap stand giving cheap performance.
Knowing exactly what I was getting, I would still buy another, but not to use in a production nor public environment.
PROS: ok stand
CONS: Even when you tighten it to the max, it wilts sometimes like a dying plant.
That being said it's reasonably easy to resolve that issue if you have access to a 3D printer (or a 5-axis cnc machine I suppose). I've published a small fix for the two lower brackets, which extends them slightly to allow for comfortable locking of larger tablets:
Obviously not ideal, and very likely screws up the ability to hold smaller tablets, so your mileage may vary.
Beyond that the arms feel slightly of cheap plastic, where the rest of the mount feels very solid. Some folks have reported issues getting things tight enough to hold well, though I'm not seeing that issue.
Overall I'm pretty happy, my only concern is that the upper size range this holds is not really suitable for many 10in tablets, so be forewarned.
PROS: - Mostly very solid (in the arm)
- Reasonably inexpensive
CONS: - Won't fit many larger 10in tablets (without an extended lower bracket)
- Arm plastic feels slightly cheap in comparison to the rest of the very solid build.
As other reviewers have mentioned, this mount does not tighten enough to hold modern tablets securely. My ipad, (1.33lbs) only stays in place if everything is just about as tight as possible. I have to really crank on the tightening leavers to hold the thing in place. In my opinion, this is where improvement should be made. You should barely need to turn these at all and the mount should be Rock solid. But sadly, that is not the case. I am able to make it work, but it could for sure use some improvement.
I have also found that to stiffen the middle joint (connecting the two arms), you must peal off the adhesive padding to reveal the two Allen screws (depicted in the instructions). The plastic leaver didn't seem to make much of a difference, but the Allen screws did make a noticeable difference. Again, you must tighten a Lot to make it work. Also note that the Allen wrench provided didn't seem to be the right size (it was slipping). I used a different size (I think a British size) to tighten them to the desired stiffness.
The reason I chose this mount over other alternatives is because of the flexible sizes. I do not own and Android tablet so i cannot test those. My iPad lives in a case all the time (a combination of a plastic back cover and a smart cover). I wanted a mount that wouldn't require me to remove either of these. Sure enough, this mount fits my iPad well with the case on, which is a nice feature.
I figure, I will tighten these to the max, and if the mount breaks or wears out to the point that holding my iPad is impossible, I will call Monoprice and get a refund or a replacement. Can't go wrong with a lifetime warranty!
Overall, check the weight of your tablet before buying. If it is 1 lb or below, this will be probably a great option, but if its 1.33lbs or above, use caution. Hope this helps future or current buyers!
Fits iPad, even in a case
CONS: Does not tighten enough or easily enough
Very easy to install, and a great full range of motion so that it could be mounted on the corner of a cabinet and swung out of the way when not in use.
The measurements looked like they would work for a Nexus 7, but it was just slightly too tall to hold the tablet firmly in place. I was able to easily remove the adjustable bracket, cut about 1" off and put it back together - and now it works perfectly.
The only (minor) things I would change is that if the bottom cover came completely off for installation, it would have made things simpler - if you have a tight spot to install this, a bit of patience may be involved in getting the cover rotated while installing screws.
PROS: - Adjustable joints seem to be set tight enough to not move
- Very full range of motion for a variety of angles
CONS: - Needed to modify it slightly to fit a smaller tablet
- Lock button could be a bit better situated
- Cover for base should come off for installation.
PROS: It has lots of flexibility for moving and positioning your tablet. Easy to mount. Pivoting base can lock into different positions.
CONS: Unable to tighten enough for use with a 1st gen iPad.
However, the mount does feel sturdy, and the movement feels like a reasonable level of resistance however, since I can't mount my tablet, I can't actually do a "real" test with it
PROS: feels solid.
CONS: Not Universal
