These new high fidelity units deliver the high quality craftsmanship and construction you've come to expect from Monoprice brand products at a fraction of what you would expect to pay for them retail.
In-wall and in-ceiling speakers allow you to expand your listening environment throughout your entire home as well as remove the clutter of giant box speakers giving you back your living space. In either case it's a win-win situation for those who desire high fidelity and those who put emphasis on decor.
Kevlar cones are light weight yet extremely rigid providing very precise audio with minimal distortion normally caused by cone flex. Our kevlar speakers are matched with an equally precise silk membrane dome tweeter made of titanium fiber thread and a high quality crossover network to ensure high fidelity and low distortion. The lower distortion levels allow the speaker to be driven harder and handle higher peak power levels. The main benefit our Kevlar speakers are the clarity and fidelity at which they produce audio.
Light and rigid, well balanced, Yellow Woven Kevlar Cone Woofers for distortion free reproduction
Oversized Magnets for more impactful bass
Precision Titanium Silk Membrane Dome Tweeters for sweeter highs and pure sonic clarity
Pivoting tweeters allow you to point the accoustics to the prime listening position for a more accurate and immersive sonic experience

Question: How do I install these speakers in the wall or ceiling?
Answer: There are clips that secure it to the wall or ceiling boards. You don''''''''t need any additional box or bracket. You simply cut out a hole in the wall or ceiling with the template provided, insert the speakers and when you turn the mounting screws located on the face of the speakers underneath the grills, the clips will engage and secure the speaker in place.
Question: Can I use these speakers as an LCR (left/center/right) or used a match set for all my surrounds, or is it better to have specific types of speakers for specific locations.
Answer: Opinions will vary even among experts about the proper type of speaker to use. The bottom line is choose what suites your needs and tastes best.
Some of the arguements are as follows:
Using match speakers all around make it a lot easier to match the timber and tonal balance across a soundstage and around your room. This prevents a character in a movie who walks from one side of the room to another from sounding like Mike Tyson on one side and then James Earl Jones and back to Mike.
On the other hand. Most dialog comes from the center channel of a system in order to anchor the voices to the screen. The human voice tends to represent the upper mid bass frequencies, so dedicated center channels will have dual woofer cones to better produce this range of frequencies. Since dialog can easily be drowned out by ambient noises in the soundtrack, this helps to keep dialog clear and understandable.
Question: There is insulation behind my wall. Is it safe to install the speaker without a box?
Answer: In-wall speakers are designed with the posibility of insulation in mind. The insulation will not harm the speakers or create any hazzard. Even regular box speakers have insulation in side them to reduce the effects of standing sound waves.
Question: Can I put an in-wall speaker in the ceiling or an in-ceiling speaker into the wall?
Answer: You can put an in-wall speaker into a ceiling however, because of the mounting depth of the speakers, you can not usually fit an in-ceiling speaker into a wall.
Question: How do you set the crossover switch (0, -3db, -6db)?
Answer: The cross over switch allows you to better match the in-wall speakers to the wall you are installing them into by adjusting the roll off between the drivers. Standard non-in-wall speakers come in boxes that are optimized for the speaker and the crossovers are tuned for that specific enclosure. In-wall speakers use the space between the walls as it''''s enclosure. Since different wall spaces will vary in volume, construction, insulation, etc, a particular in-wall speaker will sound different in different walls. The switch allows you to adjust and optimize the sonic characteristics of the speakers to best match the wall you are installing them into. Set the switch to the setting that gives you the best sounds once they''''ve been installed.br
A friend of mine bought an older house that he is fixing up and wanted to put surround sound in. I'm more into home theater than he is, so I helped him select components and install everything. We chose four of these for front left/right and rear surround, and a Monoprice center channel speaker for the center.
Since it was an older existing home and there were some obstacles that prevented wall mounting, everything went in the ceiling. The templates were great, but we found that cutting slightly outside of the line we traced with the template yielded the best results. The spring terminals worked perfectly for wire connection with 16awg wire. The mounting clips had me worried because of other reviews about soft screws that were easily damaged, but we had no problems and all screwed in easily using (carefully) a cordless driver.
The sound driven with a Yamaha HTR-4065 is excellent!! I have B&W in my house, and these sound very comparable at normal listening levels. The point-able tweeters made it easy to make the best of the in-ceiling location, and the midrange was very clear and tight, not muddy. The lower frequencies were handled by a JBL powered subwoofer, so it's hard to say how the low end is, but I would assume more than adequate for stand-alone applications if you were going that route.
All in all, these are an incredible value, and I would not hesitate to buy these for my own house.

Awesome speakers, cheap screws
Pros: Amazing sound, especially for the price
Cons: Screws are made of really soft metal and bend or break easily.
Everyone is raving about these speakers, and for good reason. They are GREAT.
I'm still rating these a 10. However, my only complaint is that the screws are really soft metal. One of them bent very easily, I'm guessing because the anchor got stuck or something. It was bent at nearly 90 degrees and I had to get it out and bend it back with a couple of pliers. Don't ask me how it bent at 90 degrees while I was turning it, no clue.
Another screw broke off about halfway up. I wasn't even turning it hard. I had the same problem with some bolts that came with a TV mount I purchased. Usually I just toss the Monoprice screws in the garbage now and use new ones.
The is literally the only drawback to these. Don't let this dissuade you. I'm buying several more pairs of them.

Will they fit?
Will these speakers fit in a normal 2 x 4 stub wall?
I ordered four pair of these for my media room. I put them as my R/L and Center in the wall where my screen is, used them as my R/L Surrounds, and put two more in the back wall as my rear surrounds R/L. It's nice that the tweeters pivot and that doe genuinely help you put the sound a bit more where you want it. This is my first "go" at 7.1 and home theater and the result was very positive. They have good power ratings and I try to stay well below them, but they appear capable of playing quite loudly if needed. I probably don't get over half volume or so with movies or music, and they (coupled with a entry level subwoofer) really add a lot of "feeling" to the room. I am glad I didn't purchase anything smaller in size than these 8" speakers. They really don't have much bass or boom to them, as I thought they might. But that's actually better because the subwoofer is set to handle those LFE's anyhow. I mounted all my speakers vertically even though I thought they would have "looked" better in some spots sideways. Reading up on proper orientation made that decision easy. The outcome was very good. Are they $3500 speakers? Nope. Can most people tell (including me)? Nope. Do they provide a very wide and dynamic sound range and impressive sound experience? Yes they do. When I turn it up I'm certain you can hear my sound outside even though our house is all brick. I'm very happy, but the only thing I might have done differently is adjusted the placement to be a little more in line with seating positions instead of aesthetics. But that's no fault of the speakers. If you're in doubt, go for it. I'm glad I did! Now... to find a purpose for this eighth speaker I have ....

Pros: Well made. Sound good. Template for hole cutting. Paintable grills.
I made an inexpensive 7.1 sounds system in the basement using these speakers as the right and left main speakers. I used The monoprice center speaker and the 8" ceiling speaker as well as the 12" subwoofer to complete the system. A good result for the dollars invested. Sounds great for normal levels and good a loud levels. The Onkyo THX 9300 system in the living room is better for movies with a greater dynamic range in lows and highs, but for less than $350 I have a decent set of speakers. I'm happy.
