Headphone Splitter with Separate Volume Controls

Split your headphone or line out signal and independently control the volume levels using this Headphone Splitter with Separate Volume Controls from Monoprice!

This simple 3.5mm splitter allows you to distribute a single audio source to two headphones or output devices. This perfect for allowing two people to listen to the same source or to distribute to two different amplifiers. Each line features an independent volume control wheel, so each person can enjoy the audio at the volume level they prefer.

You can also use this splitter as a means of injecting a microphone signal into the source device. For example, you can plug this into your phone and then use a pair of headphones and a separate microphone for hands free communications.

Note that this should NOT be used to combine two audio source signals into a single input. Doing so could exceed signal strength limits and cause damage to your equipment. The only proper way to combine two audio signals is by using an audio mixer.

Pros: Small form factor allowing for input to be plugged in without having to remove cases on devices
    Volume control works well

    Cons: None

My wife and I end most days by catching up on shows in bed. Sometimes it's from a laptop but mostly it's from the iPad. The iPad, however, is in a case with a small headphone port cutout and the headphone splitter we were using required that I peel the case back on the corner with the port just to plug in headphones. This splitter's input is narrow enough to fit in there perfectly.

The volume controls is also a nice touch. We'll watch anything from The Blacklist to Mad Men and so on. I typically prefer the volume a tad higher than my wife does because I hate missing out on any dialogue. I also play in a band and have gone to too many concerts so I'm sure I've lost more hearing than she has. In any case, this allows us to have the show on at our own preferred volumes. Everyone wins.

They do what they're supposed to do, but the sound quality suffers.

Pros: Splits music to two headphones
    Separate volume controls

    Cons: Reduce sound quality
Volume of one affects volume of the other

I got these initially with the ability to balance my sub and speakers in mind, but I didn't use them long because they aren't that great. I also used them to compare two different headphones, and it ended up making both of them sound not great when one of them I know for a fact sounds really good. Also, due to how current works, path of least resistance stuff, adjusting the volume in one inherently affects the volume in the other. They do work as a splitter though, and you can set two different volumes, so they do what they're supposed to do.

    Pros: Splitter works.

Cons: Feel cheap on the volume adjust switch.
Volume adjustment don't have full range.

It works as splitter, volume control don't have the full adjustment range. It gets full volume at half turn. It feel cheap for the volume control switch. However, it work perfectly for you if you don't care about adjusting the volume or just use it as a on\off switch like me.
