win 98 and ME are NOT supported, regardless of the listing

Pros: It's cheap, the keychain bit is novel. Not as cheap as another one that is more compact and with which I've had zero problems (didn't list 98 or ME as supported though though).

Cons: Doesn't work. Lists Windows 98 and ME as compatible and the drivers on the provided CD do not install as USB wifi drivers, but as a network adapter, i.e. ethernet seeking adaptors. I purchased the USB port card knowing that would be an issue, which installed fine. The ones on the CD are the only ones that list Windows 98 and ME, not even the ones on this page have 98 or ME drivers.

This has caused me about 3 weeks of frustration in trying several different drivers. I was enlisted to help with a donated machine at a childrens' after school program. It had Windows 98 on it, I found this. Considering Monoprice does not usually lead me astray, and the price was right, I took a chance on this so the kids could access the internet in the only section of the building they can keep the computers (no cabling available and cannot afford the expense to run it). I tried upgrading it to ME, which is the most recent operating system this machine will be able to take. I already have some tools so it will be pretty safe and stable, but I'm dead in the water if I cannot even connect to the internet. The drivers still do not work even with the upgrade and try to install drivers for an internal adaptor. The fact the drivers here on the page don't even mention 98 or ME just further cause me nothing but irritation, especially if advertising its supported. A thin slice of documentation on how to make that happen would be awesome as well.

    Hello cc,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with PID 8074. If I may ask, have you tested the adapter with all USB ports on that computer? Are you able to try with any other computers running a newer OS such as XP, 7, or 8? Also, please try installing the most up to date drivers listed under RTL8188CUS at the following link:

    http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=48&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=274&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true

Please let me know if the problems still occur so we can look into this further. Thank you in advance!

The adaptor works fine on any less old plug-n-play compatible operating systems. The USB ports I have been using are all from the brand new USB port card (also from Monoprice) but yes, I did try the one archaic USB port the machine already had to no avail. Like I said, the drivers for the port card installed beautifully, but there seems to be no method of telling it was that weird thing it detects attached to it is and what to do with it. It does "see" it, but it just shows up as an unknown device.

my apologies, will try the link as well and report back, thanks for that

    Highly Recommended Wireless LAN!

Pros: +Easy installation, just plug and play
+Works with any computer with a free USB slot
+Wireless speed is excellent (assuming you had good speed from your ISP)
    +Great price
    +Small size and unobtrusive

Cons: -Wireless speed is of course not as fast as a wired connection, but I will say even as a gamer who does a lot of streaming, I didn't lose much speed at all.

If you are looking for a low cost way to get rid of some unsightly LAN cables and keep your internet running smoothly, you found it with this device! Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Works great on a raspberry pi

I plugged this wireless adapter into my raspberry pi which is running raspbian 2014-6-20. Double clicked the wifi config icon on the desktop. Scanned for my wireless network. Entered my wifi code. It connected immediately. It's working great. My raspberry pi is in my garage, and the wireless access point is 50 feet away in my front room.

Could not get it to work at all with Win7 64-bit

Pros: Small in size. Inexpensive. Was able to get it to work with Vista 32-bit (see comments below in the review)

Cons: Didn't work at all in Win7 64-bit. The included Realtek wireless utility software didn't work correctly in either Vista or Win7. Time waster....I'd rather pay double or more the price for something that actually works than to be wasting all my time trying all kinds of drivers to get it to work, and ultimately it fails in Win7 64-bit.

Unable to get it to work under any circumstance with Win7 64-bit machine. Tried the drivers on the Monoprice site, also tried the drivers on the included CD, also tried some drivers from Realtek. In all cases, Win7 is unable to connect to any wireless networks and says "there may be a problem" with the driver, and that it can't bind to the stack of IP protocols, etc. I was able to get it to work with Vista, except the Realtek wireless utility doesn't really work, and I have to connect to wireless through Vista's own built-in software. In Win7, nothing works whatsoever.
