    not strictly windows 8.1 compatible

Pros: my built in wifi seemed slow so i plugged this guy in expecting to see a good boost in performance. it connected very easily on my windows 8.1 system.

Cons: its speed isn't really what it should be so I checked on here for an updated driver. it took a while to find the right driver on the realtek site, especially because I had to search the reviews to find out which chipset I needed to look for.
once I downloaded the driver for the chipset that monoprice tech support kept referencing I tried installing it and got stopped right away with an error saying that this operating system was not supported. I looked back at my settings to see how it was working before and it turns out windows downloaded the 8188uc driver instead of the proper driver and that driver actually was working for the most part. well I ran the correct chipset driver install in compatibility mode to see if that fixed everything and it installed without a problem. just restarted and now the adapter isnt recognized by windows at all. so thats worthless.

I had hoped this would be a simple way to improve the connection on my desktop but it failed miserably.

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with PID 6146. If I may ask, did you uninstall all previous drivers before installing the chipset RTL8188SU drivers? Can we try installing the drivers in safe mode as well? What about testing the adapter with another USB port on the computer? If possible, can we also try the adapter with another computer that has an older Windows OS version running (such as Windows 7) just to see if the issue persists? Please let me know your results as well as the order number so we can look into this further. My apologies again for any trouble and thank you in advance!

    didn't work

    Pros: didn't cost much

    Cons: didn't work

I tried to get it working on a Mac Pro (1.1) running Mac OS X Lion (10.7.5) but the wireless application crashed each time it was launched. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and restarting and plugging and unplugging but the app would just quit as soon as it was clicked on. I even went as far as trying the other OSX drivers. Still no go. I used the latest drivers as well. Electronic junk. /i will return for a refund, hopefully, and seek out a different brand.

Truly sorry to hear about your experience with PID 6146. To clarify, did you download the latest software from the following link?

Also, can you verify that the driver downloaded was for chipset RTL8188SU? Thank you for your patience and cooperation in the matter.

I downloaded the driver: Realtek_RTL8188CU V2.0.1 for Mac OSX 10.7.5. It was the right driver for the OS and chip set. But it did not work. I returned the part and got a USB WiFi stick instead. It worked. D-Link DWA-160

    by Monoprice Administrator

The chipset for PID 6146 is RTL8188SU rather than RTL8188CU. I can see how that can be mistaken as it is off by only one letter, however the driver would have to be for the chipset RTL8188SU for it to work. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Pros: seems to be everything it advertises

doesn't work with windows 8. On closer inspection it never claimed to, but that isn't much consolation.

Truly sorry to hear you're having difficulties using the adapter with Windows 8. PID 6146 is compatible with Windows 8 however. Have you tried installing the latest drivers for the usb adapter? The latest drivers can be found on the following page:

Be sure you download the driver for chipset RTL8188SU. Please let me know if that changes anything. Thank you!

    Pros: Cheap

Cons: Can't get it to work and the Monoprice site only shows instructions for Mac. Product came without instructions.

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 6146. A shame this didn't work out for your needs.. Now if I may ask, what OS is the computer running? What drivers are we using with this? Also, has this been the case since you received it? Sorry again for the trouble ans thanks in advance!
