Doesn't Work

Pros: None.

Cons: Either broken or improperly made.

Same problem others have noted. I'm plugging a 2.5 mm IR blaster (Logitech) into it, and the plug just falls out. Either the adapter is broken or was built improperly. Still love Monoprice, but this adapter doesn't work for its stated purpose.

Hello Dave,

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 7125. May I ask if it clicks at all when you plug it in or if you can see the contacts inside of the port? Please let me know so I can further assist.

by Dave
No, it doesn't click when inserting the plug, and I can't "feel" the contacts by moving the plug around. I tried looking in and couldn't really see very well, so I dissected the adapter. It appears that the strips of metal that make up the contacts may not have been bent correctly? I'll email you a photo.

Hello, Dave

Thank you for that info. It does seem as though that may be the case. If you would not mind sending the photo to

by Dave
OK, I already sent it once, but I'll send it again.

Won't Stay Connected

Pros: Super cheap!

Cons: I am trying to use this to extend an IR blaster but the male 2.5mm mono plug from the blaster won't "click" into place so it doesn't seem to be making a connection or stay together. Not really worth returning.

See the Cons section for my review, this little hiccup will not keep me from buying from Monoprice in the future!

Thank you for your review. May I ask if you purchased the IR blaster from us? Could you send a photo of the IR blaster and the IR plug? Please let me know so that I may further assist you.

I did not, the IR blaster is from a Logitech smart hub. From what I read online this adapter should work but this one just won't click into place.

by Monoprice Administrator
I see. If you would like, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a replacement to see if a new unit would work out any better. However, before we do that, I see that the adapter purchased goes from mono to stereo. Just to verify, does the IR plug from the blaster have one black ring or two? Also, do you happen to know if the IR port on the device it is being plugged into is stereo or mono? Please let me know along with if you wish to proceed with the RMA. Thank you and I hope this helps!

Gabby the IR blaster is a mono 2.5mm plug ie 1 ring. I am frying to plug it into a 3.5mm female stereo Jack.

Pros: It is a difficult to find plug and Monoprice carries it.

Cons: Showed up broken. The contacts of the female side were either non-existent or mangled so badly that the 2.5mm plug just fell out.

As consumers buying ridiculously cheap cables, adapters, etc. I think we all understand and accept that there is a reasonable chance that something isn't going to work well (or at all). More to the point we realize that due to the super low cost of these types of products sending something back whether it doesn't work or if we just don't like it would cost many times more than just eating the cost and moving on with our lives. This is one of those cases and over the years I've had pretty good experiences with Monoprice products. Even thought the adapter doesn't work at all I normally wouldn't rate it this low, however when the failed adapter showed up, the package had been torn open. It had clearly been returned as defective, restocked and resold. It doesn't bother me that I was sold a returned product that someone tried out. Hey its a $.35 adapter. What bugs me is that I was sent an open product that they had the opportunity to check it out and make sure that it was a good product. Sure Monoprice will be happy to allow me to spend at least $1.50 to ship their $0.35 adapter back and send me a new one, but why should I have to effectively pay at least $1.85 for an adapter advertised at $0.35? This was a clear failure of receiving and/or QA.

On a more technical note. Do keep in mind that this isn't just a 3.5 to 2.5mm adapter, but also stereo to mono. Just what I needed to extend my IR blaster (had it worked). 2.5mm anythings are terribly hard to find. If you need one this may be your only choice and I would say certainly go for it, but we need to let Monoprice know that restocking bad parts and selling them again isn't acceptable business practice. If it costs too much to test (which is likely for a $0.35 adapter) then toss the open ones that are returned. Do this too many times and you won't have any more customers.

Thank you for your review! I am truly sorry to hear about the experience you have had with PID 7125. If I may ask, are you able to send me pictures of the damage? If so, my email address is . Once received, I will forward them to my manager so we can check if it was an issue with shipping or if you were sent a defective adapter that was returned to us.

Also, if you would like, I can assist you in setting up the RMA for a replacement. Please note that since this is a defective item, we would cover shipping costs if you were to return the broken one back to us. However, I looked into it and we would not need the defective one returned to us in this case. We will be able to send the replacement straight out to you at no additional cost. Please let me know if you would like to proceed with the replacement. My apologies again for any inconvenience and thank you in advance!
