    Mini Displayport 1.1 Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI® Female Converting Adapter

    Connect your older Mac® without an HDMI® output to an HDMI display using this Mini DisplayPort and USB Male Audio to HDMI Adapter from Monoprice!

    This adapter converts the mini DisplayPort video output to HDMI. Stereo (2-channel) audio is obtained through the USB connection and is mixed with the video to produce a complete HDMI audio/video signal.

    Note that this adapter does not support more than 2-channel audio. Additionally, it is unidirectional asnd therefore cannot convert HDMI to mini DisplayPort signals. Finally, on some Macs the video connector blocks the adjacent USB port.

    * Attention Mac Mini® Customers using dual monitors only. There is an unresolved issue with using both the mini-DVI and mini display port outputs simultaneously. Specifically – when the mini-DVI cable is disconnected from the Mac Mini®, this causes the Mini DisplayPort to not function  – often causing the display to show an “unsupported format” error. This appears to be an ongoing issue with multiple generations of Mac Minis® (models with mini-DVI and mini display port) and also appears to be happening with a variety of manufactures display adapters for Macs®, not just Monoprice adapters.



    The solution – (Again, for dual monitoring Mac Mini® users only) Use the mini-DVI output for your main display, and the mini display port for the secondary display. That way - disconnecting the second display (mini display port) will not affect the output on the main display (mini-DVI). This will not be an issue if you are using two monitors - and are not disconnecting your mini-DVI adapter.

    Good but for a limited time

    Pros: Works great when it is working

    Cons: Stops working randomly.

    I have owned two of these devices but they must be designed to fail. Both of the units I have owned have stopped working after about a year and a half. Right after the warranty is gone.

    I love monoprice products, every since I discovered monoprice a few years ago I've been mostly happy with the price/quality of monoprice cables so since then I've been pretty much using exclusively monoprice products, and I've spreaded the word to all my friends/family in real life and online, asking them to spread the word even further.
    This is the 2nd monoprice product that has disappointed me. It stopped working after less than 10 times being used, and I used it with another monoprice product, the Redmere thin hdmi cable (product ID 11184). not sure what the problem is.
    I used to swear by monoprice quality, now I'm getting really skeptical. If this keeps up I might not return for future purchase, and won't encourage friends and family both in life and online to come to monoprice.

    Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about your experience with PID 5969. Can you describe your setup including all devices and cables in use? Has anything changed in the setup when it stopped functioning? For troubleshooting purposes have you tried switching out the cable (if testing with regular HDMI, can you verify that it is 24AWG)? Also to further isolate the issue have you tried connecting to a different source or display? Would you happen to have your order number so that I may look further into the matter?     Pros: Good quality, good length, LOVE the built in audio component.

    Cons: Not a thing

    Got this product with an Amazon brand HDMI to HDMI cable (which I also recommend!), fixed the audio settings to USB in preferences and I was good to go. Works flawlessly. Very satisfied.

    Mini display port to HDMI with USB

    Pros: Does a good job of connecting non thunderbolt Macs to monitors and tvs via HDMI and not having to worry about additional audio cables and ports

    Cons: Stopped working after not a lot of use

    This is the second one of these that I have bought. The first one stopped working after probably less than 75 hours of usage, and from what is have read, this seems to be an issue with this product. It worked well when it was working

    Truly sorry to hear about the experience you have had with PID 5969. To further understand the issue, what is the length and gauge of the hdmi cable in use? Does the LED light up? What devices have you tried this adapter with? Were you able to try other devices and USB ports to see if that changed anything?

    Should the issue persist, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement to see if that will work better or an RMA for return. We do have 30 day return policy as well as a one year warranty for this adapter. Obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost.     Pros: Worked temporarily

    Cons: Lasted 13 months exactly then died.

    I was happy with it. Until it stopped working 13 months later.
