Component Video and S/PDIF (Toslink) Digital Optical Audio Coupler Wall Plate

This elegant and clean wall plate will give your setup a professional and customized look. This plate features 3 color coded RCA jacks for component video connections and an optical TOSLINK connection for audio.  You can use it for other functions as well, just make sure to be mindful of not crossing connections. The jacks are in a coupler configuration so installation of the internal cables (inside the wall) are just as easy as connecting the external ones.

Pros: Inexpensive and handy to have them both in one wall plate

Cons: None

Does what they it says it does and is very inexpensive. Shipping was super quick. Makes for one less wall plate for my theater system.

Very ugly... find a flat one if possible

Pros: Good connections

Cons: Looks very ugly

It suits the needs for these type of connections, but, the face plate sticks about a 1/2 inch off the wall and looks very toy-ish/ bubbly. I like the flat clean look (like every other face plate in my house) but this will have to do until I can find one that is flush with the wall with these connections.

Updatefound a way to secure the cable!

I reviewed this item below and gave it a 2 out of 10 due to the issue with the optical coupler in the wall plate.

However upon inspecting one again today, I realised there *is* a way to make the optical cable stay in! I looked at the port and realised that it isn't one of the older unidirectional Toslink plugs where you can plug in the cable one way and only one way. It's more like the newer style Toslinks that have deviated from the original standard, where you can plug the cable in, in more than one orientation.

Now the connector is still missing the little stops in it to hold the Toslink plug BUT if you rotate a standard Toslink plug and plug it in 90 degrees to how you would usually plug it in, you will notice it is harder to plug in. Push with a little force and it will go in... And, it won't fall out! It can still be removed and inserted this way, just with a bit of resistance but the key is that it will hold in the plate properly that way! :)

Note that if you have a multi-orientation Toslink plug/cable (if anyone knows what I'm talking about), it probably won't work because these use a round ring which secures into the Toslink jack at the points which this one does not have. However standard Toslinks (which is what most people will have) should work fine provided you rotate it 90 degrees.

Since this is the case I've updated my review to a 7 out of 10 instead of a 2. It still loses points for not being decora and for it not working as it should, but using the above method it does work and therefore deserves an updated review.

It seems that MP has stopped selling these, however, so it may not be of any use to new buyers but perhaps it will help some people that already have them.
