    Pros: Cheap solution, works flawlessly

Cons: Requires electricity, power converter is pretty big

This thing is awesome! I built a new PC and it only had digital SPDIF output whereas my previous build had a digital coaxial port that I had wired to a sound system about 20 feet away. The adapter let me keep the previous coaxial connection without losing any noticable quality.

    Pros: Inexpensive. Solved the problem.

    Cons: None so far.

I wanted a new Apple TV, but the only audio output from the new device is an optical audio output. My Bose Home Entertainment System is old and had only one optical input which was already in use. This device was the perfect solution. It allowed me to use an available digital coaxial cable input. Works great. Problem solved.

You don't always have to use what's provided

Pros: Great solution for getting the most out of your system.

    Cons: None

I've used these several times for converting optical out to digital coax. My customer wanted to keep his satellite receiver (optical out only) near his tv but his surround sound receiver was located in his closet down the hall. I managed to use the prewired coax between the two areas to carry the satellite sound to the surround sound receiver. Works brilliantly with no lag.

This is actually the second one of these that I have bought from Monoprice. The first one I bought several years ago is still in use I simply had a need for a second one and once again this does the trick! If you have device(s) which put out only TosLink as the digital audio and need to convert it to RCA, get this device! I'm very happy with both of mine. I have both of mine hooked to a "smart strip" so they are on only when my TV / home theater system is on. I would recommend that sort of setup rather than keeping these devices on 24/7! Again, I'm very happy with mine. Thank you Monoprice!

Pros: Worked exactly like I thought it should. Easy setup.

Cons: No on/off switch so it draws power the whole time it's plugged in.

I used this with 126 and 1556 to get 5.1 sound from my MacBook Pro with TOSLink output to a Vizio sound bar system near my TV that had only coaxial input. Works fine. No setup work other than just plug it in.
