    Power Adapter Might Not Fit

Pros: It worked, once I tried another power adapter.

Cons: It doesn't work with the power adapter that I think it came with.

I bought this product a while ago and I couldn't get it to work. I don't remember much about it, but I know I tried and tried, but I just couldn't get it to respond. Recently I was desperate in trying to access another drive so I brought it back out. I wasn't sure whether I had the right power adapter, but I tried plugging in the one I could find (and from the specs it looked like it was it), but it wouldn't fit the connection. I looked some more and the only other adapter that I thought might work was one from something that I knew didn't come with this docking station, it came with an external WD drive. But I tried it and what do you know, it worked! Then I think I recalled that when I first got the drive that the adapter wouldn't fit then either so I thought that it must power from the USB cable, but of course it didn't so I put it away in storage. Anyway, I'd like to ask others, what power adapter did you get with this product? The one that I think I got with it says (if I can read it all correctly, it's very small print):

    Sunny Switching Adapter
    Model SYS1298-1812-W2
    Part No: SYS1298-1812
    Input: 100-240V-1.0A MAX
    30-40VA, 50-60Hz
    Output: +12V 1.5A
    Output Power: 18W MAX

And it has 4 icons on the cord side with 1 that look like a recycling bin that I'm not sure I've ever seen before, which is also on the docking station and the box it came in. I ordered mine in June 2014 so maybe the adapter has changed since then though.

And can anyone re-educate me on what specs are absolutely necessary to match when using other power adapters? I once looked into this, but about all I remember is it took forever to wrap my head around it all.

Amazing price. Does everything that I need. I especially like the fact that it includes an SD card reader. My only complaint which is not a problem for me is the backup software that it includes is not that great. But I have other software to do that.

    Don't buy it

    Pros: It's cheap

Cons: Does not work at USB 3.0 speeds or support the full speed of SATA disks

I bought 2 of these. Only 1 of them worked. The ones that does work doesn't transfer at speeds of USB 3.0. It is very slow. It really is "too good to be true" for the price. It has USB and card reader on the front that do work, but transfer speeds are not at USB 3.0

Thank you for your review on PID 8078. I am truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with this docking station. Just to verify, what are the transfer speeds that you are currently achieving? Can you describe to me your setup such as what is connected to the dock specifically and the OS version being used? Can we test the docking station with a different USB port? What about with a different computer? Please let me know so I can best assist you in resolving this issue. Thank you in advance!

    Pretty good but be careful

Pros: Easy, fast, convenient. Allows you to add drives to your computer externally

Cons: Cheap access door breaks off. It's used to hold up a 2.5" drive so when the door breaks off the smaller drive wants to fall over.
Don't leave a disk in the drive for extended periods of time. The dock made the drive so hot that it ruined a 1TB drive and burned up the dock.

Very pleased with the dock which allows for external attachment of multiple disks, USB accessories and memory cards. It's well laid-out and easy to use. I kept a 3.5" drive in the bay for about a year. One evening I smelled the "electrical burning" smell. It was the drive burning up in the bay. I own one for my personal computer and another for our video-editing Mac. We no longer keep a drive in the dock on the editing computer. We just use it to backup files and then we remove the drive. It's GREAT for that and you can't beat the price

Flimsy hinged flap will break and fall off!

Pros: All the electronics seemed to work.

Cons: Hinged flap that converts the unit to accept 2-1/2" drives breaks off easily.

The hinged flap that flips down for 3-1/2", and up for 2-1/2" drives was broken off when I received the unit. The spring clip for the flap was inside the unit. Since I didn't want the metal clip to short out the electronics, I had to open up the unit to remove the clip. No big deal, but the flap needs to be more sturdy. Now my unit does not have that flap at all. I have to be careful not to have the hard drive tilt over because there is nothing but the SATA connector holding it upright!
