Pros: As with 99.999% of Monoprice cables, this is a great cable at a great price. I had no problems loading the driver. It was instantly recognized as a Prolific chipset USB converter.

    Cons: None.

Works great on my Windows 7 laptop using driver support file above (

questionable drivers at best or bad serial implementation

Pros: Comes with a db9 to db25 adapter

Cons: Doesn't Work, Might be a driver issue or just a bad cable.

I was looking for a lower cost alternative to the SIIG cable I usually buy which I have yet to find an obscure device that it wont work with. However this cable, labeled as being from BYTECC just doesn't seem to want to work. I bought it hoping to retrofit an older set of US Robotics serial modems. The modems are known good. I confirmed that the db9 to db25 adapter works fine with my SIIG cable so that's not the problem. I was looking to use these under Windows Server 2012 R2 but no luck. It doesn't seem to matter what drivers are used, I cannot communicate with any device attached to it. It is not flagged in device manager. It simply doesn't work. So I also tested this Bytecc cable on some test-bed systems to at least determine whether the cable was working or not on any OS in case there were any issues with newer operating systems. I tested it under Windows XP, Vista, and windows 7 all yielding the same results as under 2012 . I tested each using both the provided drivers and the current drivers bundle directly from prolifics website all with the same results. This cable is identified as Prolific chip PL2303-TA by prolifics chip id tool.

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 2067. Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have received a defective product. Since it is not working in windows XP, Vista or 7. Now if you’d like, I can help setup an RMA for a replacement. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, just let me know and I can get this started right away. Sorry again for the trouble and hope this helps!

USB Cables works, but the wrong adaptor was sent

Pros: The USB cable with the DB9 RS-232 male serial connector worked fine. The drivers installed automatically and Windows 7 treats it like a normal COM port. The material seems of decent quality too.

Cons: The included DB9 to DB25 adaptor is the wrong type for communicating with devices.

I ordered this product for the specific use of connecting to RS-232 devices with female DB25 inputs. After connecting everything and installing drivers, I was not able to get the computer to communicate with a printer I had connected. After a day of troubleshooting the drivers and the cable, I discovered the culprit was an incorrect DB9 to DB25 adaptor. Testing the adaptor with a multimeter revealed that it's not a null modem pinout configuration. Null modem cables (and adaptors) are used to communicate with devices directly, rather than pass the signal through. Users simply connecting using the USB-DB9 cable would not have this problem.

I have used a custom breakout cable to achieve the correct pin configuration, but I'm still in need of the correct adaptor for a permanent connection.
