16ft 5M USB 2.0 A Male to A Female Active Extension / Repeater Cable (Kinect & PS3 Move Compatible Extension)

Extend your USB 2.0 connections beyond the normal maximum of 16 feet with this USB 2.0 Active Extension/Repeater Cable from Monoprice!

The normal maximum length of USB 2.0 cables is 5 meters, or about 16 feet. Beyond this the strength and timing of the signals can get out of tolerance and the USB connection will fail. This extension/repeater cable contains active electronics, which recondition and boost the timing signals to ensure that they stay within tolerance.

The repeater gets its power from the USB 5VDC bus, so no external power adapter is required. Multiple repeater cables can be daisy-chained together to get even longer USB cable runs.

This cable is compatible with the USB version of the Xbox 360 Kinect* and with the Playstation 3 Eye camera!

*Note that this will only work with the USB version of the Kinect for use with the older Xbox 360 systems and that the separate Kinect power cable must be used to power the Kinect sensor. This cable can only extend the data connection for the USB Kinect.

Works great for HTC Vive extension

    Pros: Works as advertised

    Cons: Weirdly difficult to unwind

I'm using the 49ft version cable as an extension for the linkbox of my Vive. It was actually a bit difficult to unwind the cable (it didn't just unroll, there was a lot of untangling to do), but otherwise no issues that I can see, works great.

Pros: Solid cable, Quality built, and as always, a low, low price.

    Cons: None

We used this to feed the output of our pendant on our industrial CNC machine to the control computer. This pendant is mounted on the gantry. Even with all of the electrical "noise" surrounding this cable, we have had no cross-talk or transmission errors.

    Consistent quality

In an effort to determine how best to charge and sync 80 tablets in fixed locations, I bought three 8751 cables (5 meters each). I wanted to test the effect of length on both amps and data transfer speed. (I had received conflicting information.) For what it's worth, length definitely effects charging time of a tablet. The one meter cable received with the tablet will charge it from zero to 100% in about 3 hours. With 15 meters (3/8751's) added to the one meter cable, charging time increased to about 22 hours. On the other hand, 873MB in 412 files transferred in the same amount of time regardless of the length of 1 meter or 49 meters. I got consistent results over several tests which indicates to me that the quality of the cables was consistent.

    Further, the price was right!

    Incompatible with Alpha Signal Booster

Pros: Might be good with general USB extension needs - not tested that way.

Cons: Won't work with the Alpha WiFi booster.

I purchased this item hoping it would allow me to place my Alpha WiFi signal booster at a location where I have line-of-sight to the hot-spot but it apparently doesn't work for this use. I tried connecting the extension cable before I connected the booster and with the booster already connected, but either way, got no signal. It may be due to the power requirement of the booster which pulls several hundred milliamperes of current. I already have the booster on a non-active extension (not 32 feet) and it works fine that way so the problem seems related to the active extension able.
