49ft 15M USB 2.0 A Male to A Female Active Extension / Repeater Cable (Kinect & PS3 Move Compatible Extension)

Due to its design, USB cable has a normal maximum length of about 5 meters (16.4 feet), but you can get longer distances by using an active USB extension cable from Monoprice!

This is a bus-powered extension cable that can be used to increase the length of a device without any signal loss or potential performance problems. It contains active electronics, which boost the USB signal for maximum reliability and performance over extended distances. The cable operates as self-powered extender, for use with USB cameras‚ printers‚ webcams‚ keyboard/mouse, etc.

It is a true plug-and-play device. No additional drivers are required. It supports Windows® 98/2000/XP/Vista®/7, Mac® OS X® v10.0 or higher, and Linux. It can also be used with many types of USB devices, including the Xbox Kinect®* and the Eye of the PS3 Move!

* Important notes for Kinect users:

1. You can use this cable to connect the USB version of the Kinect only. It is not compatible with the proprietary Kinect connector. If you have a Kinect connector, please use PID 8487.

2. The Kinect requires more power than traditional USB ports are capable of providing. In order to prevent damage to equipment, Microsoft has designed the Kinect with a proprietary connector. If your Kinect did not come with a USB/Power adapter, you must purchase one from Microsoft before you can use this extension cable.

Note that the packaging indicates that this cable uses 26/22 AWG wires, however it actually uses 28/24 AWG wires as noted in the Features below.

  • USB A male to A female extension
  • Gold-plated connector
  • 28/24 AWG wires

Pros: Well, made and worked perfectly. Very suited for use with a webcam.

Cons: I like the thick wire but the thickness gave the cable a curved "memory" which might present problems for someone trying to fish it through a wall or use it in some other application in tight spaces.

Since forever, I've "known" that the max length for a USB cable was about 15 feet, so it was with some trepidation that I ordered this one for a special webcam application. (It was a Logitech HD cam attached to a Lenovo laptop). It worked perfectly, looking like the cam was 5 feet away instead of almost 50. The cable itself is substantial so there is little danger of kinking. Very pleased. Highly recommended!

Bought this to use with a wireless keyboard and mouse so I can control my computer from a different room. Using with the 7 port usb hub on monoprice and I have no issues with signal drop or mouse skipping.

Pros: This cable was purchased to replace a similar cable that failed after 3 months. It is the only cable I can find to extend a cell phone air card up the mast of a sail boat in order to extend the range. It worked fine for 3 months. It is the only cable I can find that will do the job.

Cons: Although the connections were never exposed to the weather as they were inclosed in tape and a plastic bag and the cable was only used for short times and then brought in and stored inside, Monoprice would not warranty it when it failed. Reason being not approved for outside use.

If I could find a better cable I would buy it.

Pros: Nice design, looks good ,very long as i needed

Cons: Will not work with the mouse on my Linux based video surveillance system.

I purchased this cable to extend the optical mouse from my DVR security recorder to another room. The optical light comes on at the mouse end. But the system does not recognize that a mouse is plugged in. I even tried rebooting the system with the 49 foot USB extension in place. Just as a test I tried installing the cable on the mouse to my Dell Windows 7 PC and it works fine there. However don't need a 49 foot mouse cable for my desktop PC. I picked up a powered USB hub locally ($25) and connected it to the Linux server USB port, then plugged the extension cable into the hub, then the mouse into the other end of the extension cable. Works perfectly now! Of course now I have a $42 solution instead of a $17 solution. But I'm happy to have a working solution.
