    Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is a high-speed data storage interface designed for high-throughput and fast data access. Intended primarily for data storage centers, the SAS interface is backwards compatible with SATA. This allows the user to mix more expensive, lower-capacity SAS drives for applications that require faster data access and higher reliability, with lower-cost, higher-capacity SATA drives for applications with lower access speed requirements. Monoprice carries a full line of quality SAS cables with connectors for every possible application, both internal and external.

    This 1 meter long cable uses 28 AWG wires and is intended for internal use. It has a single 36-pin SFF-8087 90-degree male Mini-SAS plug (with locking latch) on one end and has four 7-pin SATA female plugs (with locking latches), plus a single 8-pin female power plug, on the other, allowing you to connect four SATA drives to an SAS controller. This is a Forward Breakout cable, meaning that it is intended to connect to a host/controller on the SAS end and to drives on the SATA end.

    Pros: Cheapish I suppose - 1M long

    Cons: The locks are meant only for board that have full sata ports. These will not work with a standard backplane as the plugs will fall out of the back. The sides of the cables are not as thick as a standard sata cable. I wasted over $40.00

    Nice cables user error

    Pros: Great build quality. Looks really sharp.

    Cons: They are not fool proof.

    The previous reviewer stated that these cables should be straight instead of 90 degree plugs because they would be more versatile... I'm not sure why he didn't just buy the straight ones in the first place. I was really looking forward to using these cables, because it would reduce the stress on my cards from gravity pulling the cables downward however, the connectors are opposite angle of what I need to work with my Intel expander card. My mistake, and something for you to consider if you haven't already. Great build quality, otherwise. I already ordered some of the straight ones.

    why a 90-degree connector at the card end

    A 90-degree connector at the card end severely limits the applications where this fan-out cable can be utilized. Any card plugged into a PCIe slot alongside any other occupied PCIe slot is likely going to require a straight connector instead of a 90!
