Quality Cable at a Great Price

Pros: Well-constructed, length, price, reliability

I purchased this cable to connect my MBP to a VGA port at a nightclub. I am a DJ and use visuals while I perform so I needed a long cable. I have to say that this was exactly the answer I was looking for and does the job perfectly. It is well constructed and works 100% of the time.

Not worth it! Just buy through Apple

Cons: Doesn't work after only 2 months

I bought a cable 2 months ago because I wanted a singular long cable to connect my computer to my LCD tv in my apartment. At first, it worked great. But after a month it stopped working 80% of the time, and then it stopped working completely. I didn't use it everyday, there were no kinks or bends in the cable, and it was always dry and stored correctly. While the longer cable is an attractive alternative to Apple's short adapters, at least Apple adapters last. I would no longer recommend this item to anyone an instead recommend buying the adapter through Apple.

The cable every MacBook and UltraBook owner will eventually need

Your new ultra-thin ultra-light laptop probably won't have a VGA port. Instead, everyone in the biz is rushing to the mini-DisplayPort or Thunderbolt port. Problem is, most of the conference rooms, offices and other places you'll be taking your laptop still have projectors with VGA ports. They didn't all disappear overnight, you know!

This Monoprice cable rises to the challenge without adapters and extra cables and does it at a price that makes you wonder how they stay in business. It's a direct connection between technology that literally spans centuries. Don't let the light weight fool you. I had a few concerns when I connected my MacBook Pro to the VGA wall jack in our church. Lightweight cables are notorious for dropping signal, especially over a 15 foot run. At first, the image appeared on only one of the two screens, but after a reboot during which the gear could get to know each other better, everything fell into place. Even the most spectacular transitions and animations in Keynote and PowerPoint play back without stutters, dropouts or the dreaded Blue Screen of Lost Signal.

Get one now while you're thinking about it, and avoid embarrassment when the time comes to play that kick-a?? slideshow that goes with your knockout sales presentation.

ACTIVE adapter

Pros: Active adapter and cable rolled into makes for a steal of a deal, even by Monoprice standards.
It is an active adapter. (Or at least has a DAC in it, not just VGA passthrough.) Will work with Eyefinity setups, 3 or more monitors on a single Displayport equipped graphics card, etcetera.

Cons: None that I'm aware of

I took a gamble on this after a monoprice representative informed that this wasn't an active adapter, but one single reviewer for PID 6021 stated that his (regular) Displayport to VGA cable was working for eyefinity, which requires active adapters for more than 2 monitors. It seems monoprice was under the impression that any active adapter requires an external power source, ie those USB cables you see hanging off a lot of the older active adapters, especially the dual link ones.

I would expect that the shorter versions of this and the regular displayport (not mini) version would all work as active adapters as well. I hope this is helpful to someone, and that Monoprice will correct the description for these items.

cable makes appearance sleek.
connector has held up to abuse
cheaper price and more versatile than Apple adapter

Cons: no cons right now

Have been using this cable for over a month and have had no issues. have moved cable from office to home and back and it has worked flawlessly. if it continues without issue I will definitely be ordering more
