    Access™ Series 14AWG CL2 Rated 4-Conductor Speaker Wire, 250ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features four conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

Each conductor is jacketed with color-coded PVC for easy polarity identification. The entire cable assembly is jacketed in a white, CL2-rated PVC material. The CL2 rating indicates that the cable complies with fire safety and insurance requirements, making it safe for use inside the walls of residential class buildings.

Pros: 4 conductor in one casing, great for stereo pairs

    Cons: None so far

This is a quality speaker wire, easy to use and flexible. 4 conductor in one casing, great for stereo pairs. I used this for a whole house audio install and it made it so easy. Would definitely use again.

    Was initially impressed

Pros: The wire itself appears to be of very good quality, nice and flexible with good insulation and sheathing.

Cons: There was a splice in my spool where the wires inside the sheathing were joined together and not soldered or anything - just about an inch and a half of each of the 4 wires twisted together and covered with a color coded heat shrink tubing inside the sheathing.

I thought there was a damaged section of wire from feeding it through conduit. I cut open the sheathing at the point where the wire was twisted and bumpy to find the 4 joints - one on each colored wire. This occurred at about 200 feet into my 250 foot roll. If I would have known there were joints like this and I was not getting 100% continuous wire, I would have just bought the cheaper 100 foot rolls! Since I did make a cut at the first 50 feet, if I had known to look for a splice, I would have unrolled the whole thing and cut it at the splice. I would think twice before buying a big roll of wire like that again! I have never had any issue with other items from Monoprice, so this is my first complaint.

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the joined wires in your spool of PID 4040. This is not a common issue as the run should be continuous. I will pass this on to our Product development team so that they may look into resolving these issues or making the product better. I apologize again for any inconvenience this may have caused. Should you have any further questions, feel free to contact us. Thank you!

Running speaker wire in 4500 sq ft new house with 12 zones and 24 total speakers. I ordered 750 sq. feet and ended up needing two more rolls of 250 sq ft each to complete the project. even though you only run one line for a pair of speakers, it still seemed to go faster than I thought. but seems like solid wire and I would buy again.
