Access™ Series 14AWG CL2 Rated 2-Conductor Speaker Wire, 500ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

Each conductor is jacketed with color-coded PVC for easy polarity identification. The entire cable assembly is jacketed in a white, CL2-rated PVC material. The CL2 rating indicates that the cable complies with fire safety and insurance requirements, making it safe for use inside the walls of residential class buildings.

Hand fixed patch job found at 350 feet

Pros: -Price is great.
-Quality of cable is top notch, until you find a defect. (See cons)

Cons: At 350 feet one of my spools was heavily damaged down to the bare wires and repaired by what looked like white duct tape. It was obviously damaged during manufacturing and 'patched' before it was sent to Monoprice.

While I buy all my cable from monoprice, I will have to think twice about speaker wire. I noticed the flaw in my line during the pre-sheetrock inspection. Every single speaker wire is crucial to making my Monoprice 6 zone WHA system work. Once the sheetrock is up, fixing a line is basically impossible. After finding this I had to run additional 'backup' cable runs in fear that other not found defects will cause my system to fail.

I have photos of all the parts where the line was broken and repaired. I did not think to take a video and now see I cannot attach photos to a review. I would be happy to supply photos to anyone.

Hi Scott,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! This is the first time I have been notified of such an issue and I truly apologize that this happened to you. If I may ask, did you happen to install this spool in-wall? If so, approximately how much of the spool do you still have available outside the wall? Also, please send those pictures to me as I will be forwarding this along so we can look into this matter further. Thank you!

Hi Gabrielle -

Yes, I installed many cables in wall including (2) 500 feet spools of this 14AWG wire.

I believe I have just under 100 feet left on each spool. I am generally thrilled with Monoprice cable and my recent order history will show that. (I just signed up for a business account this year)

This is the first time I have had any defects. I will email the two photos that I could find right away.

I'm creating a home theater in my basement, and did hours of research to find the best quality product at the best price. Monoprice was the answer.

Pros: Great outer jacket, appears to be better quality then big box stores.

Cons: Not marked every foot. Makes it difficult to make identical length of wire.

500 ft. 14AWG speaker wire

Pros: Very good quality for a very good price, great protective outer covering

Cons: dispensing system in the box not the best

I would recommend this product to anyone wanting to use long runs of wire from an amp to remote speakers. We are using this wire for remote speakers with a Christmas Light system from Lightorama and needed several long runs of wire. Although not rated for outside use its heavy outer covering (sheath) works very well because it will only be outdoors for about 4 to 5 weeks per year. A little hassle to wind back up for storage, but great for our purpose.
