Choice™ Series 12AWG Oxygen-Free Pure Bare Copper Speaker Wire, 300ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

One side of the clear outer PVC jacket is marked with an easily visible blue stripe to indicate polarity.

    Speaker Wire
For my home stereo, I ran 4 separate runs of 80' + with this wire and am powering it with 2 Crown Xti 4000's at 650 W per channel connecting to 4 JBL MR series speakers and the sound is outrageous. Would recommend this wire without hesitation.

PROS: I checked all local vendors and Lowes and Home Depot and it was by far THE best price . Arrived when promised.

    CONS: None

Wow what a thick speaker wire I had my doubts it would make a difference but when I watched King Kong on Bluray I was amazed.

PROS: Excellent wire, polarity marked, well insulated, 12 ga.

    CONS: ordered too much wire

    Monoprice does it again!
Monoprice does it again. I don't know how they do it, but their stuff is always top notch and priced way below the competition. To get bulk speaker cable of this quality for this price is incredible. I've purchased some pricey cables in the past for my guitar/recording rigs and I'm a licensed electrician so I have an idea of what to look for in cable. I think anybody will be pleased with this cable. If you want more punch, clarity and openness to your home theater, you're going to want something beefy (to carry the amperage and account for voltage drop from long runs). 12 ga is just about perfect (any lower AWG and you'll find it won't fit under posts in some theater systems). Oxygen free is the way to go. The stranded copper ensures flexibility when running it and routing it in walls and through studs.

If you're on the fence as to whether you should opt for some fancy, overpriced cable over this - don't ponder anymore - you're not cutting corners by going with this stuff.

Monoprice, don't ever change - you guys are great!

    Good speaker wire
This is very good speaker wire. I'm running Martin Logan speakers with this ( 4 ohm speakers, 50 foot runs ). No issues. 12 gauge wire isn't easy to find locally. I have no problem recommending this wire!

    PROS: Good wire, good price

    CONS: None

This is a steal. As mentioned, this has thinner insulation than the CarolCo 12AWG you'll find at Home Depot and such, but this is an advantage in many installations.

I just used 1200' of this stuff to wire a friend's nightclub in Oakland and we saved a LOT of money.

Great wire, great price. Monoprice is THE SOURCE.

(I've bought a lot of products from Monoprice, always a bargain, but the HDMI cables are an absolute STEAL, as it this 12AWG.)

    12 AWG Speaker Wire
Excellent wire at a great price. Surround speakers sound better as compared to the 18 AWG wire I bought from Best Buy. The front/center speaker wire I replaced was Monster cable (they do not tell you the AWG rating, but it appears to be thinner than this new wire). The total system sounds great and I am happy with my purchase. Worst thing is that the spool was broken so the wire is all tangled up, but it is not a huge deal. The wire is also fairly pliable so wire management is pretty good for such thick wire.
