Choice™ Series 12AWG Oxygen-Free Pure Bare Copper Speaker Wire, 50ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

One side of the clear outer PVC jacket is marked with an easily visible blue stripe to indicate polarity.

    Pros: High quality product
    Low price

    Cons: none

I read about this wire on a couple of Audio blogs. It's exactly what I wanted...a very high quality produce at a very competitive price. This exact product is available on Amazon and others but a much better price on Monoprice directly.

Thicker than i thought ,meaning more strands of copper to carry to signal to the speaker so i'm very please with construction ,while the sound was very good..
    No complaints ...

    Pros: - Amazing sound quality
    - Verified pure copper
    - Flexible, easy to route
    - Great price

Cons: - Doesn't wash the dishes or change the cat's litter box

Just replaced my cables with this 12 gauge. I have high end audiophile level, extremely revealing speakers, and the sound with this wire is stunning. The wire is everything it's supposed to be, sounds superb, and is a truly exceptional bargain. Don't hesitate. It's that good.

Pros: Highly recommended in a pro audio review that compared a wide range of cables by both cost and gauge and recommended this as the best sounding wire. Looks like a great product - especially for the price.

    Cons: None

    Pretty Hefty Stuff

Pros: True to gauge (read: huge)
    Super thick shielding

Cons: It's huge. Like, most spring connectors won't accept it huge. Like, some binding posts won't accept it huge. Buy this gauge only if you've really convinced yourself that you need it.

Main thing to be aware of with this stuff is that the shielding is THICK. In order to get this stuff to work with the monoprice crimp banana plugs, I had to strip a significant amount of the wire. This was not easy because this stuff is huge. Unless you've really convinced yourself that you need huge speaker wire, I would recommend looking at 14 AWG just because it's going to be an order of magnitude easier to work with.
