Premium S/PDIF (Toslink) Digital Optical Audio Cable, 6ft

Experience superb sonic clarity and accurate musical reproduction with this Premium S/PDIF (Toslink) Digital Optical Audio Cable from Monoprice!

The Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format provides for a Digital Optical Audio signal, commonly referred to as Toslink. Toslink allows for the distribution of uncompressed 2-channel PCM audio or compressed multichannel audio, such as DTS® or Dolby® 5.1 or 7.1. Being an optical signal, Toslink is immune to problems that can plague electrical signals, such as crosstalk, magnetic interference, or radio frequency interference.

This premium cable features a full-sized Toslink connector on each end, with metal connector heads and a metal mesh jacket. The metal jacket helps protect the cable from nicks, cuts, and kinks, which could cause damage to the internal optical fiber.

    Features:

    • Full-sized male Digital Optical Audio (Toslink) connectors at each end
    • Heavy duty premium, square metal connector heads
    • Mesh metal jacket protects cable from nicks, cuts, and kinks
    • 8.0mm outside diameter
    • Gold plated ferrule resists corrosion and provides maximum protection for the connector tip
    • Precision polished fiber tips for maximum signal transfer

Important! Because of the shape of the connector heads, this cable will not fit the Xbox 360 S "Slim" models, which are the smaller form-factor models released after June 14, 2010. For the Xbox 360 "Slim", please use one of our standard Toslink cables with molded connectors instead.

This looks like a good quality optic cable should last a long time.

Pros: Very inexpensive! Easy to use! Better sound clarity than conventional 6-channel connection!

    Cons: NONE!

I love these new Logitech Z906 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers that I recently bought!

I am Just sitting here listening to Pink Floyd on the new speakers I bought for my PC. I initially had a problem with no sound via the toslink cable. So, I did some googling on the problem I was having. The problem turned out to be a very simple setting in the Windows Control Panel "Sound" option. I had to set the "default device" to "Digital output (Optical)".

What a big difference between the digital toslink cable and the 6-channel method using three stereo cables that I was using on my old Z5500 speakers. The volume is a little bit louder and the stereo imaging is much more defined with the toslink cable,

I can hear subtle sounds that I have never heard in music that I've listened to many times. The heartbeat intro on Pink Floyd's Speak To Me / Breathe on their Dark Side Of The Moon album makes things on my desk vibrate. I never had that with my old speakers (Z5500) - even at high volume.

If you have the option, definitely use a this toslink cable.

Pros: Nice insulation. Audio quality is good.

Cons: Brittle plastic doesn't last or stand up to few connections

Bought this cable in 2011 and has been plugged in to audio equipment since then. Removed one end only to find the plastic broken off. Removed other end and find it intact. Used cable to to test other other audio equipment. Reinserted gently into HD tv and pulled back out only to find the plastic on the other end broken off inside the HD tv optical port. Nice cable insulation but plastic is too brittle and won't last. Fishing out broken plastic in hardware ports is no fun. Will not by again. You get what you pay fo.
