S/PDIF Digital Optical Audio Cable, Toslink to Mini Toslink, 6ft

Experience superb sonic clarity and accurate musical reproduction with this S/PDIF (Toslink) Digital Optical Audio Cable from Monoprice!

The Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format provides for a Digital Optical Audio signal, commonly referred to as Toslink. Toslink allows for the distribution of uncompressed 2-channel PCM audio or compressed multichannel audio, such as DTS® or Dolby® 5.1 or 7.1. Being an optical signal, Toslink is immune to problems that can plague electrical signals, such as crosstalk, magnetic interference, or radio frequency interference.

Many laptop and small computers, including the Apple MacBook® and Mac® mini, feature a combination 3.5mm TRS stereo audio and S/PDIF Digital Optical Audio output port. This port can accept a standard 3.5mm headphone plug or a Mini Toslink plug.

This cable features a 3.5mm Mini Toslink connector on one end and a full-sized Toslink connector on the other end, with molded connector heads and strain-relief boots.

  • Full-sized male Digital Optical Audio (Toslink) connector on one end
  • 3.5mm male Mini Toslink connector on one end
  • 5.0 mm outside diameter
  • Molded strain-relief bootss reduce strain where the cable and connectors meet
  • Gold plated ferrule resists corrosion and provides maximum protection for the connector tip
  • Precision polished fiber tips for maximum signal transfer
  • Plastic tip protectors attached to each end to protect the optical cable when not in use

Pros: inexpensive, fast shipping, decent quality

Cons: n/a

It's a optical cable that transports digital music, that's zeros and ones kids, from your Chromecast audio device to the DAC on your stereo receiver. Install was a breeze and everything sounds great.

Pros: Cable design and quality is excellent.

The cable is excellent. I have it going from my HTPC to my home theater system, and surround sound and DTS works like a charm!

Pros: Seems to be pretty solid quality. It works for what it was intended.

Cons: None encountered so far.

Bought to play high resolution audio downloads from the optical mini plug headphone output of my MacBook through the DAC of my Marantz SA8004 CD/SACD player. So far, have had a few weeks, and it seems to be working flawlessly. Build quality seems pretty solid. I've seen cheap, thin optical cables and this isn't like them. Someone mentioned that they can't tell the difference between this and a mini to RCA, but if you're listening to high res96kHz/24 bitand not MP3 or iTunes downloads, you need this cable through a proper DAC or you won't hear much, if any, difference.

Pros: The price is terrific!

Cons: TOSlink shouldn't self-destruct.

Bought this to take with me halfway across the country on a recording job. Worked fabulously all the time I was there. Months later I remembered that I had this cable which could save me hours of futzing around, so for the second time I dragged it out and used it. But came time to pack up, and the TOSlink end wouldn't come out of its socket. With just a bit more pressure the connector disintegrated, leaving the tip deep in the socket. I now have to figure out how to extract it from a HOSA AES adapter and buy a new cable.

AHA! Turns out the connector didn't leave any residue inside the socket it merely broke apart upon its release. So the gear is all right, I need only to buy a new cable. Thanks for the quick response, Gabby. I'll email you a photo.

Glad to hear your gear is fine! If you would like, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a replacement cable. We cover our cables with a lifetime warranty and obtaining the replacement would be of no additional cost to you. If you would like to proceed with that option, please provide the order number and I can get that going right away. My apologies for the trouble and I hope this helps!
