DirecTV and Radio Shack sender/receiver units
We use an older Radio Shack wireless system for sending the signal from an HR-24 to some older, noncritical TV's, using the composite video output from the HR-24. As noted in other reviews, after a recent DirecTV update, the HR-24 will nag and be generally disruptive if you use the composite output (whether or not you are also using the other HD-capable outputs) unless you change the settings on the HR-24 to transmit SD on all of the outputs, including HDMI. This converter lets me take the component output from the HR-24, so it thinks it is going to an HD-capable device, converts it to composite (SD) for the connection to the sender and the remote TV is happy with the SD signal it gets at the other end. It sure beats the cost of an extra DirecTV box plus $6 monthly fee for each remote location.

    PROS: Works as advertised

CONS: None in my application (see review below)

    Works as Advertised
Like many others, I bought this to connect my DirecTV DVR (HR34) to a composite modulator. We were tired of swapping resolutions on the DVR or waiting for the warning message to clear. It was a very simple install and is working great. Would recommend this to anyone that want's to use it in this way.

I also purchased the Startech cable noted in another review to power the device from the rear-mount USB port on the DVR. Not because I didn't trust the wall wart, but because I didn't have a free outlet in my entertainment center. Anyway, pulling power in this way caused the DVR to run exceptionally slowmenus, much so to be completely unusable. It's okay though, I have a back-up should the wall wart fail as I have many spare USB wall warts.

PROS: Small, easy to hook up, price, does exactly what I want it to do.

CONS: Power wire could be a bit longer hoping that monoprice has worked out the wall wart issue.

    Monoprice Component To Composite Converter
I am very satisfied with the product and would recommend it to anyone who needs a simple and inexpensive solution to convert HD to SD for use with older SD equipment.

PROS: The unit is small, compact, easy to install. All needed parts were supplied. The device has enabled me to connect my cable box to an older Tivo which had no hdmi or component inputs. The picture is very clear and undistorted.

CONS: I had ordered the same composite to component converter a year or so ago and it worked well until the DC power adapter went bad. The converter seems to get very warm in operation but this has not appeared to affect its functioning.

    Great Little Box
It does what its supposed to do, convert signal. Doesnt seem to have any resolution loss. Seems to work great.

PROS: Small and easy to use. Pretty simple, just flip the couple of switches to the setting

CONS: Doesnt have a power switch. So I plugged it unto a power strip to be able to turn it on and off. Not a big deal but I dont like to leave my equipment on all the time.

    Sanity Saver!!
As usual with MONOPRICE, received in excellent packaging and ahead of schedule. Saved my sanity! DirectTV DVR composite output into DVD Recorder with composite only inputs resulted in irritating "Cables are not HD" message and lousy picture. Installed this device using Component out on DirecTV DVR to device and composite cable out of device to composite in on DVD recorder. No more messages AND great picture! Worked even better than anticipated, with no discernible signal loss feeding into Samsung 58" 3D TV for a beautiful picture! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

PROS: Have not found a comparable device at any price anywhere else!
ONLY way found to bypass irritating DirecTV "Cables are not HD" Message!
    No discernible signal loss
    Excellent quality construction

    Fabulous product. Used almost daily.
I use it to take video from a couple of different sources which normally would reduce widescreen material to 4:3 format, allowing me to record in 16:9 widescreen format.
Product can get a little hot, so I blow air from a 5" desktop fan on the device at all times. MonoPrice delivered it more quickly than I had expected.

PROS: Product works well and appears to be solidly built.

    CONS: None.

    CONS: None

Does exactly what it's supposed to do
I bought this to feed the YPbPr component outputs of my DirecTV box into my old series 2 TiVo, which has only composite and s-video inputs. Feeding composite directly from the DirecTV box was causing ghosting and a slightly fuzzy picture. Now I'm feeding the component outputs into the converter box and using its s-video output to feed my TiVo. The picture is much clearer with no ghosting. The color saturation is a bit high (for example, green grass is REALLY green) but I can adjust the levels at the TV.

I'm an electrical engineer and I couldn't build a converter box like this for only $40, so it's a reasonable price.

PROS: Allows you to keep using older devices that have s-video inputs
    Reasonably priced

CONS: Color saturation is a bit high

    composite to s-video coverter
Very good converter and value for the price.

PROS: works well as advertised, SD picture 480i looks as good as the source. seems to run pretty cool and very quite.

CONS: None that I have noticed.

Works as I hoped after getting technical support
I purchased the converter hoping to be able to connect several TV's to one Direct TV receiver. I was able to do this until recently without any problems. I'm assuming that my receiver software was updated.... This unit allows me the same functionality as before except that I now use the component outputs and convert them to composite then run them through an RF modulator so that I can use the coax cable running through my walls to 3 other TV's. Using an RF remote allows complete control of the receiver from any room. Thanks Monoprice for this great product and for walking me through the set-up. The directions are not clear at all....

    PROS: small unit
comes with a variety of cables

CONS: Set-up instructions needs to be expanded so calling technical support wouldn't be necessary, however, Mohammed was courteous and quite helpful.
