    Pros: - Very inexpensive solution
    - Easy to connect
    - Prompt Monoprice processing and delivery

Cons: Doesn't work with my products

Received it yesterday and proceeded to connect it up between my Compac computer and Sony Google TV. my dream system for my home office is my Mac mini and Compac computer to both be connected to the Sony Google TV. Because the Compac only support VGA the ( VGA & R/L Stereo Audio to HDMI® Converter w/ DC Adapter) was my solution. Doesn't work so it looks like i will have to return it and dump the Compac for a new PC based model with HDMI video output.

    Hello EJ,

Thank you for your review, have you tried a different resolution on the product? How about a different set of cables? Please let me know so I can see how we can proceed further, thank you!

    Doesn't work

Cons: endless flickering on and off

I had received this today in the mail and was looking forward to finally being able to use my dreamcast with it. it simply just doesn't work at all with it, no matter what's done. it isn't the vga cable as that works perfectly fine when tested on an old monitor lying around, tested multiple hdmi cables so that's not the issue. when having it on, the picture flickers on and off slowly, making it worthless to have. looking around, I've heard this work with a person regarding the system but at the same time quite a few have the same issue I have. so with that said, i'm unsure if i ended up with a bad one or if this doesn't support the game system and the person that got it working has something else going on.

    Hi Merrick,

Thank you for your review on PID 4629. I apologize for the video issues experienced when using this converter with your Dreamcast. One possible problem may be the extra adapter that is needed to make the VGA conversion. We do not recommend chaining this converter with any additional adapters or converters as that can cause it to not work. Just to verify, are you using a composite/S-Video to VGA converter to achieve this or a VGA Box? Does this happen even when the converter is connected to a different HDMI port? What about with another display? If possible, would we be able to test the converter with a source that has VGA built-in such as a computer? Also, can we try power-cycling the setup? To do this, please power down all devices in the setup then disconnect all cables including the power supply. Once done, wait five minutes then reconnect the audio/video cables. Finally, power on the devices starting with the display and working your way backwards to the Dreamcast. Please let me know your results from there. Thank you in advance!

Thank you for the additional information! I have been looking into this and found that both the Dreamcast and that cable first try to output in 720x480 . Unfortunately, this converter does not support that input resolution and is unable to scale it automatically. The resolution would need to be adjusted through the source itself. Others may have had better luck depending on the VGA adapter they used. If you would like, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a refund.

that's a shame that even when it tries to switch to 640x480, it tries the other resolution instead shortly after. that must be when it actually shows on screen briefly is when it is in that resolution. yeah, i'll go ahead and take the refund since I didn't have a need for it outside of that device.

Pros: - It did *technically* produce a video signal on my TV.
    - Cheap

Cons: - VERY limited... only produced a 4x3 image in the middle of my widescreen TV.
    - no 1080p

Okay, because my PC connects to this box and then this box to the TV the PC refused to show anything other than 1280x1024. I tried every resolution on the wikipedia ( and not a single one of them was compatible with either of my HDTVs. So all I got was a 4x3 image that didn't fill my screen. I think the issue is that my video card "sees" what monitor it's connected to and since it doesn't know it's connected to an HDTV is only shows a certain subset of safe resolutions. I can override these resolutions but none of them worked, no matter what I set for the refresh rate or image size. So be warned, while this does technically work, it may not do what you want. In short I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy this because the results are impossible to guarantee.

My apologies for the resolution issues experienced with this converter. If I may ask, what are the lengths of the cables in this setup? Can we try swapping them out to see if there is any difference? Also, can we try power cycling the setup? To do this, please power off all devices in the setup and remove the cables (including power supply) from the converter. Please wait about 5 minutes then reconnect the audio and video cables. Finally, please power on the devices starting with the display and working your way backwards to the PC. Please let me know your results from there so I can best assist you in resolving this matter. Thank you!

Works as intended after some adjustment

Pros: When I got it working it looks great and doesn't upscale when unnecessary. I liked this device because I could output from my Dreamcast VGA adapter to HDMI 480p instead of upscaling to 720/1080 like others. I prefer to let my TV do the upscaling.

Cons: At first the picture worked great right away. There was a problem with the audio, where it was so loud it was causing a lot of distortion. Unplugging the power supply and plugging it back in solved this issue, but the issue returns if plugged in while my dreamcast is off. Tested with other audio cables and it had the same issue. But as long as you leave it plugged in (as most would) after fixing the above issue, it should be fine.

A great solution for playing Dreamcast in the best quality on a new HDTV.

Pros: When they work, they look good.

    Cons: 50% failure rate.

I purchased 5 of these for all around our business. Three out of the five have failed. Two of them worked for about 2 weeks and failed, and one didn't work straight from the box. I have one in service now that has been working for about 3 weeks, so we shall see if it lasts.

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about your experience with PID 4629. Are the devices that are no longer functioning not passing signal? Can you describe your setup including all devices and cables in use? Have you tried switching out the cables to see if anything changes? What is the length and gauge of the HDMI cables in use?

Another thing you can try is power cycling the device. Disconnect everything from the converter including power and cables. After about 5 minutes, plug everything back in and power everything back on. Also try powering everything on from the display and work backwards in the chain to the source device.

Please let me know if the above steps yield any results so that I may further assist you. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
