4x2 Matrix HDMI® Powered Mini Switch w/ Remote

If you're like most people, you have your home theater setup in one room, but have TVs in other rooms as well. This gives everyone in the house the ability to watch what they want, when they want. But what if the kids want to watch a DVD while you want to watch the big game in the living room with your friends? You can lug the DVD player to the other room for the kids, but a better solution is to use an this 4x2 HDMI® Mini Matrix Switch from Monoprice!

With this switch you don't need to move equipment from room-to-room, nor do you have to buy duplicate equipment for the other room. This matrix provides 4 HDMI inputs, which allows you to connect the Xbox 360®, cable box, blu-ray player, and the output from your Android phone. Any of these four inputs can be independently selected for either of the two outputs. Both displays can select the same or different inputs.

The switch includes a remote control, allowing direct selection of any of the inputs for each of the two outputs. It has a built-in equalizer to compensate for weak HDMI signals and supports the full High Speed 1080p@60Hz HDMI video resolution. It is powered by an included 5 VDC, 2A AC adapter. The four input and two output HDMI ports are gold plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections.

    This matrix measures only 4.5" x 2.4" x 1.3" (115 x 60 x 32 mm). A spare/replacement remote is available as PID 12383.

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

    IR Issues Otherwise Works Great

    • Nick,

Pros: Works and switches well after initial setup and getting devices to be ok with the device

Cons: Had problems with devices going through at first.
IR doesn't work with the Monoprice Dual Band IR Repeater

So now it works great except for the IR not working with the Monoprice Dual Band IR Repeater.
The entire reason I bought this one was because of the remote feature. I have all of my devices and the switcher in one closet and have a it run to two TVs in my house. Because the IR Repeater doesn't work with it I have to get up and go across my house to change what device I am using. You would think that a IR repeater that is a Monoprice Brand product would work with a device that has IR that is also Monoprice Brand. Super Frustrating!

    Hello Nick,

Thank you for your review and my apologies regarding the issues with the IR. It sounds like the issue is that the remote for the matrix does not send a powerful enough IR signal through to the Dual Band IR Repeater. The signal that the remote will send is not a very strong signal. Even though the repeater is suppose to boost the signal upon output it could be that the signal is degrading by the time it reaches the Hub for the repeater. Does the repeater with with other remotes?

Yep the repeater works with all the other remotes in my house, apple tv, etc...

Thank you for that information. Just for testing purposes if it is possible would you mind testing the remote with a shorter run on the IR cables? Testing with the shorter run will help determine if it might be just a weak signal coming from the matrix remote. Also, you can try re-positioning the IR emitter at the matrix to see if it will pick up the signal or if you test the matrix remote very close to the IR receiver cable, does the signal go through?

    Pros: RMA issue immediately.

Cons: Replacement unit was also faulty.

Can't recommend with two out of two faulty switches.

I just received the RMA labels and was going to UPS today. Before I send tell me about the other models (make & model so I can Google them) and how they could be made to be the replacement.

A bit buggy but does the job.

Pros: Good switch for multiple devices to multiple displays.
    Remote is convenient.

Cons: As others have reviewed it can be a bit buggy requiring a power cycle to work from time to time.

Have had this unit for a long time and have had the HDCP Handshake issue since day one. Power cycling from time to time doesn't bother me to much but can be a bit of a pain.
When it works though it is a great solution for multi display, multi device usage.

Pros: Works well as described and easy to set-up and manipulate.

Cons: The lights on the front are beyond bright, and I had to go outside and stare into the sun for awhile just to take a break.

Would be perfect if the lights on the front weren't so bright.

Great In Concept, Buggy in Practice

Pros: Concept seems perfect for complex HDMI splitting/switching with 2 TVs.

    Cons: Buggy and doesn't work

Been using for a week or so and have had to power cycle it (unplug the ac adapter from the unit) almost every single time I've used it in order for it to work. Nearly every time I turn off a tv(s) or change inputs, it drops the connection to the output source (tv).

Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product.

For now, if possible, please try a couple of troubleshooting techniques with me to see if we can resolve your issue.

Have you tried a different power outlet?

What about a different set of devices?

Have you also tried power cycling all devices associated with it?

Please let me know if the problems still occur. If it does, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement or a return RMA to see if a replacement will work better. We do have a lifetime warranty on cables as well as a 1 year warranty for everything else. And obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost. If you want to continue with an RMA just please provide the order# and if you wanted to return it or obtain a replacement. Thank you!

Thanks John. I have tried all of those things. The only clear solution is to just power cycle the device before each us so that it recognizes the output TV again. Looking at the other reviewers with similar problems, it appears that it is an inherent problem with the device involving the HDCP handshake timing out or not initiating properly, requiring the manual reset.

Turning a TV on after it has been on off apparently does not trigger the device to reinitiate the handshake. Could be that the input source needs to be powered on first, followed by the TV. But that is not always practical and shouldn't be necessary.

I would be open to trying a replacement product, but am not hopeful that it would fix the issues.

    Hello Bryan,

Thank you for your response, yes a replacement unit may work the same so unfortunately unless you want to try a different matrix, more than likely it will be the same issue. Let me know what you want to do. Thank you!
