4X4 True Matrix HDMI® Powered Switch with Remote Control (Rev. 3.0)

If you're like most people, you have your home theater setup in one room, but have TVs in other rooms as well. This gives everyone in the house the ability to watch what they want, when they want. But what if the kids want to watch a DVD while you want to watch the big game in the living room with your friends? You can lug the DVD player to the other room for the kids, but a better solution is to use an this 4x4 True Matrix HDMI® Switch from Monoprice!

With this switch you don't need to move equipment from room-to-room, nor do you have to buy duplicate equipment for the other rooms in your home. This matrix provides 4 HDMI inputs, which allows you to connect the Xbox 360™, cable box, blu-ray player, and the output from your Android phone. Any of these four inputs can be independently selected for either of the four outputs. Each display can select the same or different inputs.

The switch includes a remote control, allowing direct selection of any of the inputs for each of the four outputs. Additionally, the matrix can be controlled by a computer, via an RS232 serial port, as well as front panel controls.

The matrix supports the full High Speed 1080p@60Hz HDMI video resolution and features a 6.75Gbps bandwidth, sufficient to support 3D video, 36-bit Deep Color, x.v.Color™, and high-definition multichannel audio, including Dolby TrueHD™ and DTS-HD Master Audio™. It is powered by an included 5 VDC, 2A AC adapter. The four input and four output HDMI ports are gold plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections. It measures about 11" x 5.8" x 1.5".

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

    Good Switch, Lasted 3 years

    Pros: Price
Worked well, while it was working

Cons: No discrete on and off IR command
    Life Span

This switched worked well for me and was powered on for 3 years straight before it quit. HDMI outputs stopped working one at a time. My two complaints about the product is that there is no discrete on and off IR code and the fact it died, but for the price I am satisfied. The discrete remote codes creates a problem when you have multiple users in different rooms trying to control the unit. If you are watching downstairs and someone upstairs turns on the unit it will send the power cycle command which turns it off for everyone! The solution is have a discrete OFF and ON command, so each user simply send the ON command rather than turning it off by mistake. This is why I just left it on for 3 years so I did not have to worry about the conflict. Overall I was impressed that it worked as well as it did for the price.

This has been a real workhorse for almost 10 years. Finally, the power supply went out. The switch works but I need a new power supply. Does Monoprice sell a compatible supply? (Output DC 5V, 4A)

We just moved to a new house and I set-up an AV closet. I hooked up all my devices and tvs (HDMI cables through the attic) in the house to it. Now we can watch Cable, play PS4, watch Apple TV in any room of the house.

The only reason I did not give 5 stars is, in my family room i have it hooked up to a receiver for my 5.1 surround sound and every time i switch the input on the HDMI Matrix my speakers like to hiss for a fewseconds.

Bad power supply after a month

Pros: Works well. Does as it should.

Cons: AC Adapter dead after 1 month (others have had this issue). Slow switching times (although this might be industry normal).

The unit is a decent unit. It does as advertise, four inputs, four outputs. I am outputting to two flat panels (with Active cables, Cabernet 45'=PID 12737), and daisy chained to another matrix switch (via HDMI commercial PID=2804). Works great. Problem I ran into (which I think others have mentioned here before) the AC adapter stopped working. It lights up for 1/2 second, then off for 3 seconds. Already submitted for an RMA on this.

One other note when you daisy-chain two switches together. you will want to turn off the HDMI-CEC on the flat panels. While this feature normally is nice (turn on your DVD, and the TV's turn on) it becomes a mess when you want the TV's in the daisy-chained location on a different source, or you have them off, you click on the primary location, and the secondary location pops on as well. You go to the secondary location, turn off those TV's, and it thinks you want the primary location off as well. This is included even if the (secondary) matrix switch is off at the time. The control signal still passes through. No fault of the matrix switch product, just letting you know.
One other thing to keep in mind is that the switching time is up to about 10 seconds. when powering on or switching sources. Not instant as you might think. Not an issue, maybe an annoyance. Since I am fully aware of it, it does not really bother me.

    Good while it worked

Pros: Works for up to three years.

Cons: It will fail before your TV's do.

This switch has burned out after 3 years of daily use. Not bad but I think most of us have developed the mindset that all electronics have to last 5 years minimum at this point. I will move on to another brand since there are now so many choices in the marketplace and Monoprice does not appear to be investing much in this product.
