4X4 True Matrix HDMI® Powered Switch w/ Remote (Rev. 3.0)

If you're like most people, you have your home theater setup in one room, but have TVs in other rooms as well. This gives everyone in the house the ability to watch what they want, when they want. But what if the kids want to watch a DVD while you want to watch the big game in the living room with your friends? You can lug the DVD player to the other room for the kids, but a better solution is to use an this 4x4 True Matrix HDMI® Switch from Monoprice!

With this switch you don't need to move equipment from room-to-room, nor do you have to buy duplicate equipment for the other rooms in your home. This matrix provides 4 HDMI inputs, which allows you to connect the Xbox 360™, cable box, blu-ray player, and the output from your Android phone. Any of these four inputs can be independently selected for either of the four outputs. Each display can select the same or different inputs.

The switch includes a remote control, allowing direct selection of any of the inputs for each of the four outputs. Additionally, the matrix can be controlled by a computer, via an RS232 serial port, as well as front panel controls.

The matrix supports the full High Speed 1080p@60Hz HDMI video resolution and features a 6.75Gbps bandwidth, sufficient to support 3D video, 36-bit Deep Color, x.v.Color™, and high-definition multichannel audio, including Dolby TrueHD™ and DTS-HD Master Audio™. It is powered by an included 5 VDC, 2A AC adapter. The four input and four output HDMI ports are gold plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections. It measures about 11" x 5.8" x 1.5".

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

Pros: Great. Does everything it says it does and does it well!.

Cons: No RF remote.

This is a great product. Its one flaw is that if you're using it in a multimedia closet, you still have to go to the unit to switch inputs. RF or even wifi with app would make this product the best bang for your buck. Additionally, 2 outputs stop working after 3years. Disappointing. So now I have half a product. or a 4x2 matrix.

AC Adapter Goes Bad

Have had unit for 5 years and it stopped working. As other reviewers have pointed out, the issue was the adapter. I replaced it and was back in business immediately. Good product.

Using with HDMI extenders which I've had to replace several times over the years due to power surges. Finally tracked down the problemTHE CABLE COMPANY forgot to attach the ground at the box. It doesn't matter how much surge you put in, it will blow your equipment if your cable line isn't grounded outside your home.

Pros: If you need this type of unit give it a try.

Cons: on some TV's you may have to use the lesser of the HDMI inputs. the ones with MHL ARC etc might have hand shake issues.

Had 2 of these units for a year now both work well. one unit lost one of the indicator lights. other than that ok.
bought another now too much stuff.

Connected a TiVo, Apple Tv and Sony BluRay Player to a Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba TV.
Used Harmony remote to Turn on TiVo, or Apple TV or BD player and Sony TV and Matrix switch.
Though output resolution of BluRay player had to be lowered.
Worked ok except when using another TV and used Harmony remote to turn off Sony TV as Matrix also turned off otherwise all worked ok.
Changed the harmony config so that Matrix switch stayed on which improved the wife acceptance factor. This worked well for a while
Unfortunately, Apple TV no longer displays on any screen unless Matrix is restarted.
If I switch from Apple TV to TiVo and back TiVo is no longer Displayed.
now when I turn on the Toshiba TV to which TiVo when sony is also watching TiVo, the Toshiba goes blank for a few seconds every 5 - 10 seconds until the Sony TV is turned off, which us very frustrating.
Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you for your review. This item will work best if all devices support a specific resolution and all resolutions are set to the same one on all devices. For testing have you tried setting all devices at 720p? Please let me know, thank you!

My original setup used 4 inputs going out to 4 different monitors. The output spans were:
2 x 6 ft via HDMI
1 x 25 ft via HDMI to cat 5 extender
1 x 50 ft via HDMI to cat 5 extender

The 50 ft span was the first to stop working. I read that the HDMI extenders didn't really work well with this matrix, so I purchased Active Series High Speed HDMI Cables with RedMere Technology to replace the lines using an extender. The 50 ft span lasted about 2 weeks before the output completely stopped working. 2 weeks after that, the output supplying the 25 foot span signal stopped working. I now only have 2 working outputs, so I have given up on the matrix and just manually unplug and plug in my devices when needed.

I guess I will stick to ordering only cables from Monoprice :(

Hi Jason,

My apologies for the inconvenient experience faced with PID 5704. You are correct in that extenders don't work well with this matrix. When chaining switches, splitters, matrices, or extenders together, it can put too much strain on the signal passing through which would cause it to not output at all. The Redmere cables should be working fine, though. Just to verify, have you tested the two non-working outputs with the short 6ft HDMI cables? Did they still fail to output any signal? Does this also occur regardless of the source selected? Can we try power-cycling the setup? To do this, please turn off all devices and unplug all cables from the matrix including the power supply. From there, wait five minutes then plug in the HDMI cables again. Finally, please power on the devices starting with the displays first, the matrix second (by plugging in the power supply), and then the source devices. Please let me know your results from there so I can best assist you in resolving this matter. Thank you!

I power-cycled my setup as instructed. I also tried each input and output combination, with a single input going to a single output. I did this one at a time using a 6ft HDMI cable, power-cycling the matrix between each combination.

Outputs B and C failed regardless of input.
Outputs A and D worked regardless of input.

I'm sorry that those outputs are still failing. If you would like, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a replacement as it does sound like outputs B and C are defective. We cover this matrix with a one year warranty and obtaining the replacement would be of no additional cost to you. If you want to proceed, please let me know and I will get that started. Thank you very much for troubleshooting with me and I hope this helps!
