4X4 True Matrix HDMI® Powered Switch w/ Remote (Rev. 3.0)

If you're like most people, you have your home theater setup in one room, but have TVs in other rooms as well. This gives everyone in the house the ability to watch what they want, when they want. But what if the kids want to watch a DVD while you want to watch the big game in the living room with your friends? You can lug the DVD player to the other room for the kids, but a better solution is to use an this 4x4 True Matrix HDMI® Switch from Monoprice!

With this switch you don't need to move equipment from room-to-room, nor do you have to buy duplicate equipment for the other rooms in your home. This matrix provides 4 HDMI inputs, which allows you to connect the Xbox 360™, cable box, blu-ray player, and the output from your Android phone. Any of these four inputs can be independently selected for either of the four outputs. Each display can select the same or different inputs.

The switch includes a remote control, allowing direct selection of any of the inputs for each of the four outputs. Additionally, the matrix can be controlled by a computer, via an RS232 serial port, as well as front panel controls.

The matrix supports the full High Speed 1080p@60Hz HDMI video resolution and features a 6.75Gbps bandwidth, sufficient to support 3D video, 36-bit Deep Color, x.v.Color™, and high-definition multichannel audio, including Dolby TrueHD™ and DTS-HD Master Audio™. It is powered by an included 5 VDC, 2A AC adapter. The four input and four output HDMI ports are gold plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections. It measures about 11" x 5.8" x 1.5".

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

Great... but only lasts six months.

Pros: Truly a great switch when it works. It's actually been flawless for me. The option to purchase additional remotes is awesome.

Cons: Short lifespan. I've never had one last more than six months.

When this unit works, it works great. I've not experienced any of the other mentioned issues with Apple TV or extenders or CEC or power supplies. Unfortunately for me, it only lasts about six months and I will be unable to access a certain input on an output. This week, my 4th unit can no longer access input 2 on output 4. Everything else still works. Two failed under warranty and were promptly replaced by Monoprice's great tech support. (One replacement was destroyed by UPS.) Now I'm out of warranty. I almost bought another one because they really have worked well and are priced right, but I decided I didn't want the hassle of replacing it in six months, so I'm trying another brand. Monoprice really needs to update their line of HDMI switches and improve their quality. There didn't used to be a lot of choices. Now there is and Monoprice has fallen behind.

Pros: Does what it should for 3 of 4 inputs.

Cons: -Even though all inputs and outputs have HDMI CEC (Or manufacturers rebranded name), turned off, the unit will randomly switch to different inputs when things are turned off. Wish you could disable CEC at the switch.
-4th Gen Apple TV just doesn't work. Anything with DRM, ie. anything from iTunes, will not play video.

Had this unit for about 6 months. Using 4 outputs, all 1080p 60hz. 4 inputs DTV, Xbox One, Apple TV 4th Gen, Apple TV 3rd Gen. Redmere HDMI cables throughout.

Pros: Great. Does everything it says it does and does it well!.

    Cons: No RF remote.

This is a great product. Its one flaw is that if you're using it in a multimedia closet, you still have to go to the unit to switch inputs. RF or even wifi with app would make this product the best bang for your buck. Additionally, 2 outputs stop working after 3years. Disappointing. So now I have half a product. or a 4x2 matrix.

    AC Adapter Goes Bad

    Pros:

Have had unit for 5 years and it stopped working. As other reviewers have pointed out, the issue was the adapter. I replaced it and was back in business immediately. Good product.

Using with HDMI extenders which I've had to replace several times over the years due to power surges. Finally tracked down the problemTHE CABLE COMPANY forgot to attach the ground at the box. It doesn't matter how much surge you put in, it will blow your equipment if your cable line isn't grounded outside your home.

Pros: If you need this type of unit give it a try.

Cons: on some TV's you may have to use the lesser of the HDMI inputs. the ones with MHL ARC etc might have hand shake issues.

Had 2 of these units for a year now both work well. one unit lost one of the indicator lights. other than that ok.
bought another now too much stuff.
