4X1 Enhanced HDMI® Switch w/ Built-In Equalizer & Remote (REV.3.0)

It seems like everything uses HDMI® these days, from home theater equipment to your Android phone. With so many HDMI devices in use, most televisions quickly run out of available HDMI input ports. You don't want the hassle of plugging and unplugging cables whenever you want to watch or play something different and you don't want the expense of new TV. Just get this 4x1 Enhanced HDMI Switch from Monoprice!

This switch features a built-in HDMI signal equalizer, which helps compensate for weak signals. It has four input and one output ports on the back of the switch, each of which is gold plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections. The switch is powered by an included 5 VDC, 1A AC adapter. The included remote control allows you to cycle through the four inputs or access them directly using the numbered buttons.

Works for us

Pros: We have about 10 of these HDMI switches throughout our building. They're cheap and reliable.

The only thing I don't like is that there isn't a discrete On and Off command via IR. There is only a power toggle IR command. In our automated system, it would be nice to turn the switch on and off when not needed, but we can't do that because there is no way of knowing what state it is currently in and we could inadvertently turn it off. We just leave it on all of the time. Alternatively, a hard power switch that could be switched on and just left on, would be nice.

Pros: Solid build

Cons: Problematic connectivity, overly bright power light

Worked with Oppo BD-93 and DirecTV Genie HD-44.
Did not work with ChromeCast and new Apple TV (Gen 4) - both of which worked fine plugged directly into my Samsung TV's HDMI inputs using the same cables.

Hello HansT,

Thank you for your review and my apologies for any inconvenience with PID 4088. I just want to note that devices like ChromeCast and Apple TV's are more intended to be connected directly to the TV. They can have issues with plugging into a switch for they are always powered on. The issue that can occur is an HDMI Handshaking issue, which can cause bad picture, off colors, bad audio and even no picture at all. Now it could work but then again it could not work when connected to a switch. With switches we do recommend using at least 24AWG HDMI cables for the most reliable signal. If you connect just the Apple TV or the ChromeCast to the switch and test it out, do you get a picture?

Cheap and Reliable

Pros: - cheap price
- works with most HDMI inputs

Cons: - did not work well with HDMI to mini-DP cord attached to Macbook Air.
- does not have auto-detect technology
- has mild problems detecting remote IR signal

Generally, this is a great HDMI switch, especially considering the cheaper price. However, if you plan on using either an HDMI cord with a mini-DP/thunderport end, this switch has problems. When attempting to use the the switch in this manner, it provided a grainy signal at the start and then switched the input to another active input.

Worked with some devices, not others

Pros: Simple, small, built well. Worked with Chromecast, FIOS cable box, and Blu-Ray player.

Cons: Didn't work with Amazon FireTV stick. Power LED is a bit aggressively red.

I bought this to connect a FIOS cable box, Blu-Ray player, Chromecast, and FireTV stick. I used a Redmere HDMI cable as the uplink to the TV.

Everything worked except the Amazon FireTV stick. When using the stick I usually got no picture but sometimes would get a picture that "vibrated" on the screen. At no point was it ever usable. I tried using a short HDMI cable as well as plugging the stick directly into the HDMI switch with no change. I also tried different ports and routing the cables to avoid interference with no change.

Unfortunately, this won't work for my application and will be returning the unit.
