3X1 Mini HDMI® Switch

When all you need is a simple HDMI® switch to connect a couple of HDMI sources to a single HDMI display device, you don't need to spend a lot of money or hassle with a big device or power adapters. Just get this nifty 3x1 Mini HDMI Switch and save some money and some hassles!

Note that this switch has standard HDMI Connectors. The "mini" in the title and description refer to the size of the switch, not the type of connectors it uses.

There isn't much to say about this great little device, except that it does exactly what you'd expect! It has three HDMI inputs and a single HDMI output. It will automatically switch to whichever input is receiving power and has a button to switch between active inputs.

No external power is required, or even options. Just plug it into the HDMI® cables and start using it right away!

Note: For best results with High Speed 1080p signals, Monoprice recommends using minimum 24 AWG HDMI cables when connecting to a switch, such as this device.

Didn't Work for me

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: It just didn't work consistently

My intention was to use this device to switch between a blu-ray player and a Windows 10 machine. Video worked without an issue. Audio did not. Audio worked for the blu-ray player but not the PC, at least not consistently. I'm certain the audio settings in Windows 10 were correct. On occasion I would get audio on the PC side but this was not persistent on a reboot. it eventually became too much trouble and I gave up.

Not Compatible with Chromecast

Pros: Small, inexpensive.

Cons: Not compatible with Chromecast.

Video is intermittent with Chromecast. This seems to be an issue with all non-powered HDMI switches. I should have done some Googling before ordering this particular switch.

Pros: It looks nice sitting on my desk.

Cons: Glitches every 5 or 10 seconds. if you don't mind constant glitching and loss of video throughput, this is the HDMI switchbox for you!

I'm not sure what I expected this device to do. I definitely wasn't expecting it to allow me to switch between HDMI devices and watch video with seamless playback. That would have been too good to be true. What it does well is looks pretty on my desk. The physical design is great. It speaks of future technologies that actually perform the function detailed in their manufacturer's description. I look forward to that time and this product is a reminder that one day, technology will function as we intend it to.

Thank you for your review on PID 8149. My apologies for the video issues experienced with this switch. If possible, can you describe to me your setup a bit more? Such as, what devices do you have connected to this switch and what are the lengths and gauges (AWG) of the cables in use? Regarding the problem itself, does this happen across all input ports on the switch? Also, has this been an issue since the switch was first received? Can we test the switch with a different port on the display? What about with different cables? Also, can we power cycle the setup? To do this, please turn everything off and wait a couple minutes. Next, power everything back on starting with the display and ending with the sources. Please let me know your results and thank you in advance!

Pros: None!

Cons: Everything!

Switch worked when hooked up to one computer with no other inputs connected. I connected an XBOX One to another input and it stopped working. I removed the switch from the equation and connected the monitor to the PC (the one that was just working) and it''s not longer functioning.

I have a spare monitor (same model). Connected that to the PC and it''s working fine. I then connected the monitor to the switch and it''s working fine again. I then connected the xbox and it stopped working again.

I now have two monitors which the HDMI ports no longer function after trying to use this adapter as a switch. I know it''s not the input devices (PC + XBOX) as they still function properly (on different monitors other than the two that are no longer working after connecting to this device)

Pros: It's small

Cons: Poor Quality

I received my first unit, it had a white flicker across my screen every now and then. No biggie, do an RMA on a replacement. Get the replacement and now it does not work at all.

I haven't had any luck with HDMI devices from Monoprice so far. Unfortunately I cannot click refund on the RMA page anymore, or I would definately request one.

Hi Taylor,

I truly apologize for the inconvenient experience faced with this switch so far. If I may ask, what are all the devices you are looking to connect to this switch? Were the HDMI cables for this setup purchased from us? If so, what are the PIDs? If purchased elsewhere, what is the length and gauge (AWG) of those cables?

If possible, please try the following troubleshooting steps so we can best isolate what the issue may be. First, please try the setup with only one source device (cable box, gaming console, DVD player, etc.) at a time and test that device with all three inputs on the switch. Next, connect the switch to different inputs on the display to see if there is any improvement. Should that not work, please swap out the HDMI cables in use as well as the source device just to rule out this being a compatibility issue.

I also wanted to note that we strongly recommend powering on the setup starting with the TV first and working your way backwards. If the source was turned on prior to the display, I suggest leaving the display on then power your source off then on. Please let me know your results from there and I hope this helps!

XboxOne & Xbox360 one cable is purchased from you the shortest 1.5FT you have. The other is the same cable I have ran to my TV for a couple years that works fine without the adapter, its 25ft. also the XboxOne hdmi cable is in use with it.

I've tried to troubleshoot it already, nothing worked.

I see. For longer runs of over 10ft-15ft, I strongly suggest using a powered switch instead. Switches that do not have their own power adapter work off the power provided from the HDMI cable. With a long run of 25ft, the signal may be too weak to properly output.

Also, I checked this order and noticed the 1.5ft cable is a part of our Select Series. That cable is 28AWG (American Wire Gauge) and may also be causing a strain on the signal. Those cables work best for direct source to display connections. However, when using an HDMI switch in the setup, we recommend using 24AWG cables or thicker. Devices like these tend to put a greater load on the signal passing through which can lead to handshaking issues. Thicker 24AWG cables lower signal resistance and help compensate for this.

If possible, one troubleshoot we can try is to test the switch with shorter cable runs (~6ft) to see if any signal outputs. This can help us eliminate the chance that the switch is defective. However, since the first switch had issues as well, it appears to be a compatibility issue within the setup, unfortunately. A different 3x1 switch that I would recommend is PID 8462:
