The classics never go out of style

Pros: Sturdy, works well, not too expensive, "classic" industrial look

Cons: Looks like something out of the 1980s or early 90s

Picked up for my work training room. Users can switch from the in-room desktop PC or add a VGA-enabled source (laptop). Passes VGA from either source to a 25 foot VGA cable which inserts into a 52" LCD/plasma display.

    Old school still works

Pros: Works exactly as expected/advertised, inexpensive

Cons: Looks like something from 1982

Can't complain about what works. Old-school still does the job. Set it up in a training lab to switch the main room display from the lab PC to a laptop extension cable, if needed.

    Absolutely Fantastic

    Pros: Low price
    Quality Construction
    Great image quality
    Old-school geeky switch vibe

    Cons: None.

This product was a game changer for my workstation. I have 3 machines (two HDMI, one VGA), only one monitor (with a single VGA port), and no money or space for additional screens. Enter the Monoprice 4-Port VGA Monitor Switch! Now with the flip of a switch I can route my three machines (two through cheap HDMI-VGA converters) to a single VGA screen. I have not experienced issues with image quality as some seem to indicate. It just works! Now I have a great workaround while I save up for a nice HD display.

    Compatibility Issues

Pros: Works on older pc's, XP and previous.

Cons: Does not seem to be compatible with Windows 8 or 8.1

I have an XP and an Windows 8.1 pc. Been using one monitor for both, but cant have both pc's on at the same time, which is why I got the switch box.

Get images through the box with the XP, but no images what so ever from the Win 8.
Contacted their customer support and was told to use different resolution settings. Tried every single resolution setting Win 8 has...still no image.

Apparently these switches are only meant for old pc's/pc programs, not for anything after XP.

    Does fine

Pros: Works, appears well built, inexpensive, doesn't require power.

    Cons: None so far.

Since earlier reviews mentioned a ghosting problem, I ran several tests after getting this box and hooking it up. In my tests, the primary cause of ghosting was total cable length. At 16' total (10' + switch box + 6'), I saw noticeable, but not terrible, ghosting that did not depend on resolution or refresh rate. With a cable directly between source and monitor, at 10' there was a a very tiny bit of ghosting (which I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been looking for it carefully). At 6' (direct cable), I saw no ghosting at any resolution or refresh rate. Using this switch box, with 9' total cable length (3' + switch box + 6') (I didn't have a combination of cables that would add up to 10'), the ghosting was comparable to the 10' direct cable, indicating the switch box made little difference. At 6' total cable length (3' + switch box + 3'), I saw no ghosting at any resolution up to 1920x1080x32x60Hz.

Aside: The box is not heavy. if you plan to put it at the very back of a desk or table with heavy cables hanging down off it, the box will tilt back. Pull the box forward a few inches or put something on top. :-)

I'm happy with it so far.
