    NiceBass
I've been playing guitar for about ten years, and wanted to try bass. I looked at some used instruments, but anything that was decent was still way more money than this. I read the reviews, and decided to take the plunge. I ended up getting mine on sale, and with free shipping. So for less than $130 to my door, I think I got a heck of a deal. I have some mid level guitars, Epiphone Les Paul, MIM Strat, Godin Freeway Classic, Squier CV Telecaster, so I know what a decent guitar feels and sounds like. This Monoprice bass is just what I was looking for. A quality starter bass, that won't hold you back. It seemed like the strings would stretch forever, but they finally stopped stretching, and now it stays in tune really well. Fit and finish on mine was excellent, but with import guitars, the quality can vary from one to the next. Overall I am really satisfied with my purchase.

PROS: Excellent quality at this price point. Hardware is solid. Good setup.

    CONS: Strings

    Great Bass!
    5/5

PROS: I was impressed by the craftsmanship, playability and overall feeling. This Bass has a great neck, good pickups and good sustain. Though I updated the pickups and it really does sound and feel close to a p-bass.

CONS: None. just add a solid case in options.

    Wow
For the price this bass cannot be beat. I have a Fender Squire bass and the new monoprice bass sounds a lot better. I am an amateur player still, but this bass does seem easier to play then my fender.

    PROS: Sounds Great. Looks Beautiful

CONS: A tiny bit uncomfortable on the leg if playing sitting down.

    Warm Vibratey Feeling
This bass came ready to tune up and rock out, or reggae, or play the Toccata in D minor, or bounce bottles in a honkeytonk.

I must have won the neck and setup lottery. Not only is it a beautiful piece of maple and a lovely piece of rosewood, but the digi tuner says it's in reasonable tune on every string on every fret. Which fret wires, BTW, are reasonably smooth and just the right height/width for the P-bass neck and taper, and only buzz when I make them. This bass is easy to fret and tap in high positions, and long throws that "big reggae club" sound in the low positions I was hoping for when I bought it. Pup drives plenty good out of the box.

Haven't opened it up, but I have put some D'a chromes on it, and the tuners seem OK and the bridge even better. The bass intonated fine up and down the fretboard with new strings, BTW.

Long P-bass strings make a large ellipse when they're doing their thing, folks. Low P-bass funk freqs can make some amps clip too. Just sayin.

After buying the Monoprice cutaway acoustic and the Tele, I felt pretty good about grabbing this bass.

Now I can say, "Monoprice, you got a real type of thing goin' down gettin down, and there's a whole lotta rhythm goin' round!"

    PROS: Really good P-bass sound.

    Setup is great.

    Body finish excellent. Great neck!

Outstanding value. Right on the Money. Even a Family Man can Barrett!

    This is a good bass.

CONS: The red. I can't put my finger on it right mao, but it'll come to me...

The bass also came with a little bit of a crooked tone knob. Doesn't get in my Righteous Dub enough to matter.

Follow up review shielding and noise
OK, my previous review was quite glowing, but I did eventually realize that the shielding/grounding was not very good. The bass was quiet when I put my hand on the bridge, but quite noisy when my hand was off the bridge. (I use nylon-wrap strings so that didn't help electrical contact.)

I decided to crack it open and see if I could fix it, and sure enough, no shielding. What did we expect for this price, right?

The good news is, I did my best to shield it with copper foil using standard techniques and now there is virtually no noise. That is to say, the (now very minimal) noise is the same whether my hand is on the bridge or not.

So, yeah! It can be fixed, if you care. (Unlike my Squier strat which is hella noisy no matter how much I try to shield it!!!! Grrrr)

Anyway, still a nice bass for the price, can't complain. Doing your own shielding on a budget-price axe is kind of a given, I guess...

    Nice bass
This is a great bass for the dollars that I spent on it. It sounds good and plays very well. Volume and tone controls work as expected and the pickup seems of good quality. It is a little lighter than my Fender Bass and that is a plus. The fit and finish on the bass that I received was really nice, you just can't beat a monoprice guitar!

PROS: Sounds great, built sturdy, Looks great nice color! Plays good with neck relief adjusted.

CONS: The neck relief was set flat and buzzed, I reset the relief and it sounds great with no buzzing.

    Blown Away
I don't think you will find a better Bass for the price. The build is perfect. The finish is immaculate. This thing plays really well. I have never played bass before. I have been messing around on the guitar for a few years and wanted to try my hand at bass. Picked this up when it was on sale ($105, free shipping) and I am in love with it. Can't wait to try one of Monoprice's Cali Custom guitars. Going to order one soon. I have nothing but good things to say about this bass and monoprice as a whole. Can't go wrong.

    PROS: Price, Build, Sound

    CONS: None so far

    Great Bass!
My rating of 10 mainly based on value-to-price ratio. It's half the price of a Fender Squier P-Bass, and in my opinion has a nicer, more solid bridge and more handsome tuners that work fine.

The delivery was perfect, well packed and no damage. The damn thing was in perfect tune right out of the box. The action is good but not fabulous. I also own a $1000 Ibanez bass that of course has better action, but the Ibanez has other problems this one doesn't.

The bass is perfectly tuned harmonically, unlike my $1000 Ibanez that I had to send back the first one because the bridge was placed such that it couldn't be harmonically tuned. $1000 and they couldn't spot that before it left the factory? This one has no problem like that.

Also the $1000 Ibanez developed noisy pots shortly after purchase. Obviously the Monoprice bass is new, so I don't know if that will be a problem but I hope not.

As I said, the action and play of it are totally acceptable. No "dead spots" that I have found yet. I'm not the greatest player but I can make it sound really nice. The strings it came sound good and bright but I'm used to coated Elixers so I can't wait to throw a set on it.

Overall the build quality is gorgeous, the bass is beautiful, no complaints there.

I'm very, very happy with my purchase, and at the price I paid for it, it is a steal and a half. If you're looking for a first bass, or, if you're like me and you just like the color red and want to see what a bass this inexpensive sounds like, you won't be disappointed :o)

    Good sound

    Overall good quality build

    Plays Great
This is a very nice bass. Sounds great, with one caveat (see below) which I am not too worried about, because I enjoy tweaking things, especially instruments and amps.

Input jack is on the plastic pick guard like the Fender P Bass, but I am guessing that either the Fender has some kind of backing or a more substantial pick guard. I have been using an older input cord with plug that seems to be made to a different spec, smaller than the Monoprice ones. So I think that might contribute to the problem. I will take it apart and tighten it and post back then.

PROS: Really loving it. Tuners are nice, neck is great, frets fine

CONS: Input Jack wobbles, and connection is flakey
