Mini Headphone Amplifier for Guitar - "Clean"

As a guitarist, you know you need to practice regularly to hone your skills and learn new songs. However, you can't always break out the amps and crank up the volume. For those times when quiet is required, you can both practice and hear the amplified output from your instrument using this Mini Headphone Amplifier for Guitar from Monoprice!

As the perfect solution to practice your musicianship, this amplifier provides clean, undistorted amplification to the output of instrument level devices, such as electric guitars and bass guitars. It features a 1/4" TS plug, which plugs directly into your instrument's output. It is powered by two AAA batteries (not included) and has a 3.5mm TRS output for listening with headphones.

An additional 3.5mm TRS auxilliary input is provided for connecting another audio source, such as an mp3 player. The audio from the Aux jack is mixed with the audio from the guitar so you can play along to your favorite songs.

This amplifier is designed to produce a "Clean" sound, which is ideal for learning a new song and hearing the raw tonal differences between the different pickups, uncolored by overdrive or other effects. The amplifier includes analog Gain, Tone, and Volume controls.

    Costs too much to return

Pros: Lets you plug in headphones.

Cons: Lots of noise and hiss.

Works as described. Lots of air noise and hiss on the line. Tried it out on multiple guitars and different headphones. Same noise and hiss with every setup. If it wasn't for the cost of shipping it back, I wouldn't still own this. I recommend a pass.

    Pros: Inexpensive
sounds good with both bass and guitar

    Cons: Plastic

I bought this to noodle with my bass while watching TV. Pots are reasonably clean. This is not a Vox but is is also not $40.

Mini Headphone Amplifier for Guitar - does the job

    Pros: - Convenient to use
    - Sound is pretty good
    - let's me practice without disturbing my neighbors
    - aux input for mp3 player

    Cons: - buzzes a bit
    - on/off button is too sharp

New Monoprice guitar (love it!) and now this amp for quiet practice.. Haven't heard other more expensive brands so can't compare, but this one does the job and is a great price. It does buzz a bit, but that might be my cable. The on/off switch is too sharp, hurts the fingers, but that is nit picking. I'm happy with the purchase, good price and good sound.

Good sound but with poor pots

    Pros: Good sound. Small.

Cons: The pots generate too much static.

The adjustment dials all generate static when you touch them. gain, volume, and tone. all three do that. It's pretty annoying.

    Works for bass, too

Pros: I am happy with the battery life and volume of this little practice tool. I am able to hear the difference between the pickup configurations and tone settings on my bass, and that is all I hoped for!

Cons: Put a strap clip on this and a couple feet of cable and you could better keep this little amp out of harm's way. Sound adjustments have to be done blind if your guitar's jack socket is on the bottom instead of the face of the instrument. The aux in jack does not seem to be stereoI cannot therefore hear aux input through both earphone jacks (nor is it loud enough to be practical).

I bought this at about a third the price of some of the equivalent devices from "name" amp manufacturers. It delivers! It would be perfect for me if it included some base metronome functions and connected less directly to my instrument.
