Speaker Volume Controller RMS 100W (Slide Type) - White

This is a slide-type wall plate volume control for speaker systems with power ratings of up to 100 watts per channel and impedance ratings of 4 to 16 ohms. This slider control can be set to one of twelve positions, including the minimum (off) and maximum volume settings.

The wall plate mounts into a standard single-gang, low-voltage wall bracket (not included) and has inputs and outputs for one pair of stereo speaker wires (4 input connections and 4 output connections). It can accept speaker wire in sizes from 14 to 22 gauge and provides a frequency response range of 35 Hz to 20 kHz (+0/-2db) at the full power rating of 100 watts per channel.

Please note: This volume control does not include a wall mounting bracket.

Support Files:

Input 2 channels, 100 watts per channel
Output 2 channels, 4 to 16 ohms impedance matching
Frequency Response 35 Hz to 20 kHz (+0/-2 db) at rated power
Wire gauge 14 to 16 AWG
Material Plastic ABS
Depth 2 3/4"

When setting up the speaker volume controls, it is important to match the impedance of your speaker system with the load rating of your amplifier. This is done by setting the jumpers on the volume control to compensate for the number of speakers you have in a parallel configuration and the impedance level of the speakers.

If using a single pair of speakers rated at the same load level as your amplifier, you don't need to make any changes - just leave the jumper in the default x1 position. However, if your speakers are of a different impedance level and/or you have more than one set of speakers in parallel, please refer to the following chart as a guide for setting the jumpers on the speaker volume control.

Note that for any speakers wired in series, the overal impedance level is the sum of each speaker. So two 4 ohm speakers wired in series is the same impedance as a single 8 ohm speaker.

Impedance Correction Chart
Jumper Setting /
# of Speaker Pairs
x1 x2 x4 x8
4 ohm speakers 2 ohms 2 pairs 4 pairs 8 pairs 16 pairs
4 ohms 1 pair 2 pairs 4 pairs 8 pairs
8 ohms n/a 1 pair 2 pairs 4 pairs
8 ohm speakers 2 ohms 4 pairs 8 pairs 16 pairs 32 pairs
4 ohms 2 pairs 4 pairs 8 pairs 16 pairs
8 ohms 1 pair 2 pairs 4 pairs 8 pair
16 ohm speakers 2 ohms 8 pairs 16 pairs 32 pairs 64 pairs

Cons: The sliders do NOT stay on the tracks...they impede the sound TOO much...I am extremely unhappy with these...I would not recommend them to anyone..I bought 10 of them and I will be buying new ones...

Poor craftsmanship!

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about your experience with PID 8246. Has this worked properly for you initially? Based on your order, I can see that you purchased 6 volume controllers. Were you experiencing this issue with one or all 6 volume controllers? We do offer a 30 day return policy as well as a one year warranty on this item. If you would like, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a replacement, which will be of no additional cost. Please let me know if you would like to continue with a replacement. Thank you for your understanding in the matter.

Sliders break to easily

Pros: Before the sliding control breaks, they are as advertised and do a nice job.

Cons: The slider will break, rendering it useless.

As above, this item is great until it breaks on you. I have purchased two for a basement remodel and I already RMA'd one because the slider was broken upon arrival. It's replacement has just broken in the same manner. I do have one that is still operational, but it feels like it is only a matter of time until that one suffers the same fate as well. The tabs that connect the inner slider to the one you see are cheap flimsy plastic. Simply using the unit as intended will break one of these tabs and then the slider is useless. These may be have the price of others, but I would just shell out the $50 for a functioning unit I didn't have to worry about. Monoprice should really scrutinize this product.

Pros: Look pretty good

Cons: Sliders are not as easy to move up and down as I would like
One of the jumpers was missing so I had to get a replacement
Volume level seems a little lower than what it should be

I got the slider model because they match most of our light switches but the rotary knobs versions which I have had in the past feel better turning up and down. These slider controls just seem a little hard to move up and down. The volume level was definitely lower than my front speakers when I first connected them on the second resistance setting, which is what you are instructed to use for two sets of speakers, so I moved it to the first setting and that helped. Hopefully, it won't cause any harm to my receiver.

Good product but...

Pros: This unit comes in stereo and it does what it says it does.

Cons: This unit isn't designed for really low volume functions. I used it where the volume was really low and it almost half the volume that we were using at full volume. Even though the customer hasn't complained, it wouldn't be something I would use in a low volume situation.
