Noise Cancelling Headphone w/ Active Noise Reduction Technology

The world is so full of noise that it can be difficult to find the quiet you need to concentrate or to enjoy your favorite music. When you need to block out the sounds of the world, you need a pair of Noise Cancelling Headphones from Monoprice!

These headphones have been designed to provide superior noise cancellation, leaving a quiet, empty soundstage in which to experience your favorite music. Additionally, they can be used without any musical or audio content when what you need most of all is peace and quiet. The Active Noise Reduction circuity will eliminate almost all external sounds, giving you the quiet you need to think and concentrate.

The ANR circuitry is powered by a single AAA battery (included), which can power it for up to 50 hours. The headphones can also be used in passive mode, without the ANR circuitry enabled, which gives you excellent musical reproduction, while allowing you to hear some of the environment around you.

The headphones come with 55" audio cable with an inline microphone and control module, a 58" standard audio cable with a 90-degree connector on one end, a headphone/microphone splitter for use with PCs, a 3.5mm to 1/4" plug adapter, and and airline plug adapter. They are packaged in a luxury "hardshell" zippered nylon storage case, which includes a nylon mesh internal pocket for the included cables and accessories. The carry case includes a D-ring, which can be used to attach a strap (not included) or to secure it to a backpack.

    Pros: Noise Cancellation
    Sound Quality
    Replaceable Battery
    Battery duration
    Carrying Case

Cons: Comfort level, particularly on the headband

I bought a few different noise cancelling headsets for my wife and I to try out before we went on a series of long flights. I ended up choosing these. They work marvelously! The noise cancelling is excellent, and the sound quality is superb. I love that they work just fine without a battery, and I like that the battery is replaceable so I can carry an extra and replace it mid-flight if I need to. I used the set for probably ~25 hrs and the original battery is still going strong.

The only thing I have against it is the comfort level. They aren't uncomfortable. The cups are nice and padded, and large enough to mostly cover my big ears. The headband expand only just enough to fit my big head without causing too much pressure against my ears. I wore these for most of flight on long haul flights to/from Europe, and the comfort level was adequate. But the headband padding is a little thin, and at certain angles the plastic can make contact with your head. It's not a big deal to me, but it was enough that my wife decided to go with a different headset that had a flexible headband with padding around the whole thing.

    Pros: Noise-cancelling works great
    Storage case is practical
I like the fact that they can be used with a dead / no battery, just in case. That was one of the reasons, besides price of course, that I didn't buy "the other brand".

Cons: The jack hooking up to the headphones is a little hard to push in, but it does stay in there nice and tight (which is not really a con!). I thought the plug was defective and wobbly at first, but it just needed a little more convicing.

I received these a few days ago, planning to use them mostly for air travel a few times a year (will update on that later). In between travel, our office has a fairly noisy ventilation system, and we also play music for our customers. Just putting these on, no music, with the noise-cancelling ON, the HVAC noise disappears completely. I can still hear the music a little bit as the speaker is 4' above my head.
If I play music at even low volume through the headphones, I can't hear anything else. That's with Media Player at half volume, and my laptop volume at 10%! If I take the headphones off, I have to lean right against the laptop speakers to hear that music, and just barely! Wearing these over my glasses dont seem to affect the NC much.

    Monoprice Noise canceling headphones

Quite often, I have to mix a live band from side of stage. with regular headphones, the band bleeds through, bass frequencies being the most prominent. At the volumes that live bands play at, the noise canceling headphones do not cut 100% of the ambient sound, but they do cut a huge amount. I was very pleased with the results. I was able to hear the board mix much, much better, and was able to mix quite a bit more accurately. I was amazed at how far down I was able to set the headphone level, and still clearly hear.
A 50% reduction in the level setting to the phones is huge, and will be much healthier for my ears.
    I love these headphones!
    Steve (live sound engineer)

I have a pair of Bose QuietComfort 15 I'm comparing this to. The noise cancellation was better with the monoprice. Although the monoprice is quite soft, the Bose are softer and fit my big ears better but I would have bought these headphones over the Bose if I knew about them first.
