8 Port 10/100/1000 Mbps Desktop Gigabit Ethernet Switch with Support for Jumbo Frames

The Monoprice 8-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch is a professional networking switch that is capable of working within the fastest network systems. The switch conforms to the IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u, and IEEE820.3ab standards, allowing it to work with 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps networking products. The 8-port design is perfect for use as a terminal switch for a small workgroup or as an intermediate switch to support a small workgroup with a throughput connection to additional switches or hubs.

This small footprint device includes eight RJ-45 LAN jacks and is powered by an included AC adapter. Installation is as simple as plugging the unit into the power adapter and inserting cables into the ports on the back. When using 10BASE-T connections, Cat3 UTP cable is sufficient and when using 100BASE-TX connections Cat5 UTP or STP cable is acceptable. However, when using 1000BASE-T connections, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat7 UTP or STP cable is preferred, with Cat7 STP providing the highest level of reliability and signal integrity.

The switch automatically detects the use of straight (MDI) or crossover (MDIX) cables and switches the connection to whichever is needed for the connected device. Therefore any of the eight ports can be connected to the upstream hub or router and the others connected to downstream PCs, hubs, or other switches.

This switch incorporates several "green" functions, which help save power and save you money! The switch monitors the connectivity of each port and does not send power or signals down the ones that are unconnected (or which have powered off devices attached). It also monitors the length of each cable and reduces the power to shorter cables, while keeping the higher power applied to the longer cable runs. Finally, the switch will go into sleep/standby mode when it detects no connected or powered-on devices. All these measures add up to reduced energy consumption and costs, which means more "green" in your pocket!

With all speeds, connections, and functions automatically configured and supported, there is no manual configuration or setup required. Simply plug it in and start using it right away!

    • Complies with IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u and IEEE802.3ab Ethernet standards
    • Supports Auto MDI/MDIX on each port
    • Supports Jumbo Frames
    • Provides eight 10/100/1000 Mbps Auto-Negotiation RJ45 ports
    • Supports IEEE802.3x flow control for full-duplex and Backpressure flow control for half-duplex
    • Green Ethernet technology, saves power and cost

Couldn't be easier. Wish it still had 2 color activity lights
I had purchased the previous version of this box for my home, and it has worked flawlessly. So when my brother's switch went out, I knew what to get. It's been install about a week, but it works just as perfectly as mine. The only thing I miss is that this version only has single-color status lights. The previous version showed two colors - one for 100MB, the other for gigabit.

PROS: Simple set up and operation. Small profile

CONS: Wal wart. Activity lights only one color

Great switch at a affortable price
I have an older model, looks exactly like the fast Ethernet one. The only con I have is that it's glossy all around, but other than that it's great!

Great value, particularly if you don't have to look at it.
Does everything it claims. Great throughput, no noticeable problems thus far.

    PROS: Thin. Exceptionally priced.

CONS: Device seems wider than necessary. The mounting holes on the bottom are too far apart in my opinion. No lights in port. Big logo.

Small, inexpensive and it just works
    Simple, cheap, works...nuff said.

PROS: This is the second of these that I have purchased from Monoprice. No frills, nothing fancy, just plug it in, plug in the network cables and it works. No fuss and does not require any monitoring.

CONS: Would prefer to have the port lights on the very front of the unit rather than on top. But its only an issue because of where I have it located.

Sure wish the power plug was smaller, it does intrude so that depending on how your electrical plug is situated it might cover one outlet and make it unavailable.

    Great ethernet switch!
Ordered on Saturday, May 10 and arrived Friday, May 16. It is a simple device and my only real question based on the reviews was if it really had wall mounts. I wish they would include photos of all sides. It does wall mount using 6 head wood screws and is nicely mounted on my wall. The instructions are very simple. I have an ARRIS TM822 modem Netgear R6300v2 Monoprice switch other downstreams. I'm getting 70 mbps download from the PC hardwired to it (I pay for 50 from Comcast) and the ports that are in use light up. Great price.

PROS: Simple installation instructions, wall mountable using 6 head wood screws. Lights show the active ports. Thin, sleek design.

PROS: Works as expected, replaced exiting 2 4 port switches to make room.

    Price is very good.

    CONS: No problems

Nice little box that does the job
I would have been fired when I worked in shipping for shipping it in a tight fitting box which would have provided no protection from other heavy items.

However, once I managed to get it out of the shipping box and set up, there was more difficulty in getting the router to play nice and figure out the new network configuration, but once it was set up, the switch worked fine and as far as I know I've not had any problems. Well, other than getting files to move from my W7Pro workstation to my Mac mini HTPC, which I suspect is more related to W7Pro and OS X bickering over something, and not related to the switch.

Quite happy with the end of the Linksys nightmare that I've been dealing with for the last few months!

PROS: So far, so good. After getting the network reconfigured, everything is working out quite smooth.

CONS: I would like a more industrial design (better stackability), and a bit of weight in the front end to have it sit level with the cables connected. However, neither of these items have any bearing on the performance of the switch.
