Pros: Price. Shipping speed and customer service.

Cons: Not the best fit.

I've always been happy with Monoprice's products, so I'm a little disappointed to have to report that this adapter is not up to the usual standards. I just tried it for the first time and was successful in mirroring my MacBook's screen to my new Samsung 24" monitor via the Mini-DVI to HDMI connection. But when I picked up and moved the MacBook, I lost the picture. As soon as I put the MacBook down again, the picture came back.
When I checked the Mini-DVI plug, it didn't seem to be a snug fit in the port, so I compared it with the plug on an Apple-branded cable, and found that the rectangular metal ring on the Monoprice plug is fractionally longer. So that's probably what's causing the problem.
I know that Monoprice will replace the item, but I tend to think it's not that I have a faulty adapter, but rather that the adapter is poorly-designed and/or manufactured.
Since everything works fine when the MacBook's not being moved, I can live with the problem…but I really shouldn't have to!

what can you say, its a cheap adapter

Pros: when it works, it works

Cons: it works intermittently

on my second adapter. monoprice sent me a new one to replace the first one which had issues - thanks!. but unfortunate issue with this cable, that if you move the computer while the adapter is in use, it disturbs the connection and causes severe display issues. if you press it in and move it around, it will usually restore the video. but this is not the preferred overall desire. its difficult to find these old, rarely used adapters (that work).

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about your experience with PID 4852. Has this worked properly for you initially? Can you describe your setup including all devices and cables in use? Have you tried testing with a different source or display to see if anything changes? What is the length and gauge of the HDMI cable in use? Please let me know so that I may further assist you. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Port plug does not seat fully into mini-dvi port on Mac

Pros: Of course price was a plus when ordered.

Cons: Mini-dvi plug does not seat fully into port input

Yes this adapter will work. But very prone to having connection interrupted. Case in point. I use a late 2009 iMac 20" that has the mini-dvi port for extended desktop mode. Bought the mini-dvi to HDMI adapter to marry to a Samsung S22D300 monitor that has both HDMI and VGA inputs. While using the adapter intermittently signal was breaking up that feeds the Samsung monitor. Checked cable connection at both Mac and Samsung seemed tight. This happened again. Traced issue back to adapter at Mac mini-dvi port. Jostled adapter and HDMI signal was stable. This signal interruption became frequent. I was about to return Samsung monitor when I though I would try the Apple mini-dvi to VGA I have and see if same issue surfaced. Immediately noticed that the Apple (branded) mini-dvi to VGA adapter fit completely recessed into mini-dvi port on iMac. The mini-dvi to HDMI does not. Should note completely stable VGA signal to Samsung from iMac. When using the mini-dvi to HDMI adapter slightest nudge of the iMac causes signal to breakup and/or be lost. I do periodically adjust the tilt of my iMac when I'm sitting at it. Maybe I just got a bad adapter. Hard to say. But I do know that the mini-dvi to HDMI plug is a bit "taller/longer" when compared side by side to the Apple mini-dvi to VGA adapter. Just don't think the adapter in question is making solid enough connection. Guess I'll have to see if there is a Apple mini-dvi to HDMI that will fit properly.
