This is an excellent device if you have a capable card. Just a note that 1080i only seems to support 30Hz refresh rate on my 9600XT, which is way too low for many displays. However I am running at 1280x720p output with no problems whatsoever (I only have a 720p display anyway). Unlike trying to run via VGA off my video card (1360x768) into the tv which is native 1366x768, this doesn't distort the image at all. Image quality is equal to that of the direct VGA or DVI-toHDMI input. You may need a program like PowerStrip to adjust for overscan (some Media Center type applications allow for this adjustment too).

took a chance with the ATI 4650, but not working
I have a ATI 4650 HD that is not in the list of approved cards, but took a chance as other customer made it work on cards out of the list (e.g. ATI 3xxx).
Unfortunately I couldn't made it works. Anybody could recommend a graphic card (non need of 3D, just good HD component output at 1080i) ?

Works well, just as advertised, with an ATI RADEON 9550. The onepage directions that come with the dongle state this adapter is built for ATI cards, so it won't necessarily work with others.

Note that the DIP switches work as intended, and HD resolutions are output as expected. However, if you intend to watch a commerical DVD from your computer's DVD drive, then you have to drop the output to the dongle to at most 720x480. ATI's FAQ on their dongle states Macrovision licensing limits the output of component video for DVDs to 480i/p.

I'm not entirely certain if the limitation I ran into was from the dongle or my playback software, so this may not be the case for you, but you may have to find a solution to circumvent the limitation in order to watch the movie you purchased through the computer you purchased on the TV you purchased it is your fairuse right.

I spent hours trying to get a svideo to component dongle working on an HD 4550. Turns out the Nvidia and ATI dongles have different pinouts. Had one of these lying around and took a chance. It WORKS!

If you are having trouble you may need to do the following steps. Set the dip switches to 720p out only (you can adjust in software later). You will need to have installed the most recent catalyst drivers. You also need to have anpother display with DVI or VGA output. Load up and find the option that says something like "force component output detection" then reboot. Then you need to tell it to output 720p. Then reboot. Not it won't display anything until windows fully loads, i.e. you won't get any bios message or the windows logo.

However once it loads you are golden. perfect picture (I had to set the oversan to 0%, for some reason it defaults to overscan)

DVI-I Male to 3 RCA Component Adapter
I needed to connect a DVD player to my auxiliary monitor and this coupling allowed me to do that. Monoprice has been able to supply me with a number of items lately that I couldn't find locally. Item is well made. Shipping was prompt and item well packaged.

The initial package was lost in the mail system, but as soon as I contacted the company a replacement package was sent immediately with all my components, exactly what I ordered and no cost.

Product description says it only works with Radeon AIW 85XX and Radeon 9XXX series. Took a chance with my Radeon HD 3650 AGP and it works fine. Excellent deal since it costs $30 to get it from ATI!

On the first one I received the adapter had defective dip switches that were all stuck in the off position. When trying to turn them to the on position the switch broke off. After a quick RMA (great customer support from MonoPrice) I found out the adapter on works on a handful of video cards. I had to end up sending it back for a refund.

Tip: make sure your video card is on the list of compatible cards prior to buying this.

    PROS: Cool concept

CONS: Only works on a limited range of video cards
