USB Extender over CAT5E or CAT6 Connection up to 150ft

Extend your USB 1.0/1.1 connection to distances up to 150 feet using this USB Extender over Cat5/Cat6 from Monoprice!

This simple USB adapter converts USB signals into a form that can be transmitted over Ethernet cable, then reassembled into a standard USB signal at the other end. This allows you to extend your USB connection to distances up to 150 feet, almost 10 times the length limit of standard USB cabling.

The adapter draws all power necessary from the USB bus, so no external power source is required. It is compatible with any USB compatible device, including any USB-equipped computer, game consoles, USB cameras, printers, keyboards, mice, etc.

Note that this adapter supports USB 1.0/1.1 speeds only. It is not compatible with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 speeds. For best results, use shielded Cat6 cabling.

Just tested with about 80 feet of solid cat5e. These worked without a hitch for USB 2.0 devices - and I didn't have much of a data rate slowdown when pushing and pulling data to a flash drive.

My final use for this will be hiding a Playstation from my kids - but giving them a USB port in the wall to plug in a Skylander's portal, or other peripheral device. These devices are all lower speed (USB 2 or lower) - and I will be running shielded Cat6 cabling for about a 100 foot run. I have not finished this run yet, so my final review is still up in the air - but if this worked with 80 feet of cat5e, I assume it will be fine with 100 feet of shielded cat6.

Good for 20 feet so far
I wanted to be able to us a USB stick to watch videos on my wall mounted TV. It would be a cleaner installation if I didn't need to plug the USB into the side of the TV. Used the extender to run approximately 20 feet of CAT5E between the 2 USB ends. This allows me to plug in the USB stick beside the BluRay player in the component unit. Nice and clean.

PROS: Appear to be of a high quality

CONS: The extender only supports USB 1.1

This may or may not be a consideration. For what I'm using it for (Video from a USB to a TV) it isn't.

    Be careful with these
They work great for USB 1.0 1.1 but if you try and use high speed(2.0) will connect and disconnect. I didn't notice when I ordered that they weren't 2.0 compliant. Got to show and had all kinds of problems. We had a keyboard and a mouse with a USB hub going over CAT5 to the computer and was not working. With other companies extenders it worked fine ( 2.0 compliant) They do work with just the keyboard just fine and with a remote touchscreen monitor.

    Great Product, Great Price
The item was exactly as described, easy to install and worked without a hitch. I have an HP D7160 that is not networkable but I wanted to be able to print to it from multiple computers and wirelessly from my laptop. I plugged the extender into my Apple Airport Extreme's USB port and the ethernet jack in the room where the printer is (about 70 feet away) and the printer is now available to all my computers and there is no problem printing over the distance.

    PROS: Easy to Install, inexpensive

    CONS: none

    USB Extender
MonoPrice is a great place to order your products from. I ordered the USB extenders, and within 2 days I had them in hand. The company is very professional and the web site is easy to locate anything you are looking for. They really take care of you. I will definitely use them again.

PROS: I purchased the "USB Extender over CAT5E" unit not knowing if it was going to work for my application. Once I plugged it in, it started preforming perfect. I have not had any problems with the extender at all.
As for MonoPrice. They were great. I ordered the extenders, and within 2 days I had them in hand. The company is very professional and the web site is easy to locate anything you are looking for. They really take care of you. I will definitely use them again.

    great for remote camera control
worked for remote control of DSLR camera (canon 5d mk 3) with 75ft and 50ft cable lengths (cat6). Live video was a little choppy but other camera functions worked just fine.

    As described
This works great, no issues over an approximately 30 ft cat 6 run.

Great for a mouse on a DVR
I install security camera systems as part of my job. We had a heck of a time extending the usb mouse from the DVR to a desk where the manager sits. We tried the active usb extensions and while those work well with a computer, they don't work with the DVR. So, we tried these and they work perfectly. A unique need and a huge relief. BTW I've got some left over 65' usb extension cables if anyone is interested. :-)

PROS: Works 24/7 to extend a mouse.
