    Access™ Series 14AWG CL2 Rated 2-Conductor Speaker Wire, 100ft

    Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

    This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

    For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

    For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

    Each conductor is jacketed with color-coded PVC for easy polarity identification. The entire cable assembly is jacketed in a white, CL2-rated PVC material. The CL2 rating indicates that the cable complies with fire safety and insurance requirements, making it safe for use inside the walls of residential class buildings.

    Nice cable, works well. I think I wish the jacket was a bit tighter around the red/black wires (there is space for the wires to move inside the jacket). It didn't make any difference to my install, but just a preference maybe.

    It's hard to beat the value of Monoprice's CL2 speaker wire! Oxygen-free copper, CL2 in-wall rating, outer case strips easy especially when using the internal pull-string, inner wires strip easy and the conductors are the perfect stiffness, for all types of applications. I've used Monoprice's 16/4, 16/2, 14/4, 14/2, and 12/2 - all in spools of varying lengths and have had zero issues. It's cheap enough that when I rearrange my living room theater or home theater, etc I typically just run new wire if the length is longer, no need to splice when it's this cheap! Have installed it in-wall/ceiling in several homes and it never fails to impress.

    Cons: none

    Great wire for a great price.

    Better than their product description

    Pros: Inexpensive
    Printing marks every foot on the white insulation
    Essentially pure copper, not copper clad aluminum
    UL Certified
    Red and black wire insulation to help easily identify positive and negative

    Cons: The individual red and black cables are not fixed in place by the white PVC insulation, but that's also a Pro because it means the cable can be "squished" a bit to take up less space and is more flexible and can turn tighter radii.
    The red and black wires are twisted maybe once per foot which is enough to interfere with squeezing them into a small conduit, but not enough to provide much, if any, signal interference cancellation.
    I wish Monoprice listed a nominal outside diameter on their product page.

    As usual, Monoprice offers us great cable at any price that also happens to be inexpensive. This came on a nice reel, boxed, and with plastic wrap to keep the wire from unspooling. The insulation cuts easily for stripping the ends, but doesn't seem fragile. Good stuff. Some specs included on a sheet of paper that would be nice to know:
    * Rated Temperature: 60C
    * Insulation Material: PVC
    * Insulation Thickness: 0.366mm
    * Jacket Material: PVC
    * Jacket Thickness: 0.732mm
