S/PDIF Digital Optical Audio Cable, Toslink to Mini Toslink, 6ft

Experience superb sonic clarity and accurate musical reproduction with this S/PDIF (Toslink) Digital Optical Audio Cable from Monoprice!

The Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format provides for a Digital Optical Audio signal, commonly referred to as Toslink. Toslink allows for the distribution of uncompressed 2-channel PCM audio or compressed multichannel audio, such as DTS® or Dolby® 5.1 or 7.1. Being an optical signal, Toslink is immune to problems that can plague electrical signals, such as crosstalk, magnetic interference, or radio frequency interference.

Many laptop and small computers, including the Apple MacBook® and Mac® mini, feature a combination 3.5mm TRS stereo audio and S/PDIF Digital Optical Audio output port. This port can accept a standard 3.5mm headphone plug or a Mini Toslink plug.

This cable features a 3.5mm Mini Toslink connector on one end and a full-sized Toslink connector on the other end, with molded connector heads and strain-relief boots.

    Features:

    • Full-sized male Digital Optical Audio (Toslink) connector on one end
    • 3.5mm male Mini Toslink connector on one end
    • 5.0 mm outside diameter
    • Molded strain-relief bootss reduce strain where the cable and connectors meet
    • Gold plated ferrule resists corrosion and provides maximum protection for the connector tip
    • Precision polished fiber tips for maximum signal transfer
    • Plastic tip protectors attached to each end to protect the optical cable when not in use

Pros: Simple to connect, inexpensive, optical digital audio quality...

Cons: I waited so long to try it out.

I plugged this cable into the earphone/digital out jack on my old MacBookPro (2007 SantaRosa) and fed optical audio into my Denon AVR-S510BT HD A/V Receiver. Along with a DVI to HDMI cable and an input assignment of the optical input to follow the HDMI input, it works just fine. Just make sure to check the Sound Out System Preference on the Mac to make sure that the digital output is enabled the Mac should detect it and set it up for you.

    Pros: Cheap!
    Sounds good!
It has Tos and mini Tos like it says it does.

Cons: Possible issue with the normal size Toslink connector. Cannot plug it into the input fully and hear any sound. Can only plug it in half-way to get it to work...

I bought this cable to connect a Chromecast Audio to my older Panasonic receiver. If the Toslink end is connected tightly to the back of the input on the receiver, no sound will play. If it is loose, it works (just shining into the plug.) I was able to make it work by plugging it in half way. Sounds good! But, if it ever gets bumped, it will not play. Can't figure out if it is a defect in the cable, or my receiver. My other Toslink cable connected to the DVD player (non-Monoprice cable) works fine. It's probably an issue with this cable. It was so cheap, and it's working, so I'm not too disappointed. Just be aware if you order this that your mileage might vary.

Pros: inexpensive, fast shipping, decent quality

    Cons: n/a

It's a optical cable that transports digital music, that's zeros and ones kids, from your Chromecast audio device to the DAC on your stereo receiver. Install was a breeze and everything sounds great.
